Ive been around here for years, Before the current user friendly Vbulletin, and THANKS button. Recommended changes to Jim over the yrs Ive seen helpfull to people (like me) that help to navigate, ask questions and find info. And since NO ONE is paid around here(cept Jimmy who gets free use of Audis and Jaguars from manufacturers )
The THANKS buttons goes along way towards helpfullness as payment. Kinda like getting awards in Cub/Boy scouts growing up.
Vbulletin is I believe the largest and most user freindly, but as pointed out, "if you dont know something its foriegn, UNTIL you KNOW it" Then is easy, its what I've told my kids for yrs raising them. Something is only hard till you know it.
At least there are NO SEARCH ****'S here and a great group. I remember when if you didnt get on for a day, new posts would barely be 1 page. Now it can be 10!
Ive heard many people use GOOGLE to ask questions(the best info for any questions) and the top answers are almost ALWAYS listed on this SITE!
as always a great read and discussion

Mikey, those SEARCH ****'S are the "FIRST RESPONDERS" to threads and questions. you know the ones that come on and say "Jesus that question has only been asked and answered on here a 1000 times already if you had bothered to SEARCH FIRST!" "Thanks for wasting bandwidth!"
There are useally a few on every forum that Im on, or used to be on, except here
Its a REAL WELCOMING feeling when your hit and of course its usually a newbie that seldom returns since he/she was just made to feel like a moron.
Google is almost always the best search engine even way above the "sites" internal search engine.
I just met Jeff (Bowyota) from here monday and he said after he bought his Xtype he googled everything and everytime the top answers were listed here, so he joined.
I remember my early forum days and learning lingo, trying to nav. using lots of smileys for my light hearted humor/sarcasm(some people really get bent or take the TYPED word differantly than the typist intended )
I found the sites that used Vbulletin to be the most user freindly and most active of forum groups(IMO) and as Jim and others will tell you, THAT membership and traffic is what pays the bills.
Anyway my lunch is over and time to put a dash back in a 2012 XJ
Cheers

Search ***** RUIN it for everyone, forever.

Nothing like Googling for an answer to a car question, finding 20+ old threads on some forum, clicking each to open & read... only to find each has one response... "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON THIS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED BEFORE". Then, after you spend all evening digging through to find "where it was discussed before"... you find the images are broken because it was 15 years ago & the question never really got answered

take the TYPED word differantly that the intended typist intended )

Isn't that the truth. It is hard to type in the right tone of voice!

in either bing or google, to specify a search that is limited to JF, include the following clause with the rest of your words:

site:jaguarforums.com

alternatively, if you want to avoid the mobile version:

site:www.jaguarforums.com

your reward is a much more comprehensive selection of posts

The key to useful searching is to refine your search as you go along.

Searching is a bit of an art.

For example to find brake fluid comparisons use two or more brand names and a word that the manufacturer or vendor site is unlikely to use.

Or, add the words: post, reply, thread to the search terms. Almost guaranteed you will only hit forums.

Lol.....Search ***** who like to use "RTFM" or "DO A SEARCH" aren't welcome here EVER!!

Its something I have always felt strongly about, as do the Mods and now even, most of the member base.

Anyone getting into that vein will be advised quite quickly that it doesn't work here, and to please refrain immediately.
The general rule is if you can't be bothered to help, or at least try to, don't bother typing anything so annoying as RTFM or similar.....lol

Just for the record - None of the mods get paid and neither do I.....Its all voluntary for the love of the forum

I feel your pain. I've been moderating part of a forum for about 10 years now, all for free. Luckily it only sees about 5 posts a year in my section

The fact that you don't is testament to your own moral integrity in providing, for free, without doubt the best car forum around and one which I enjoy contributing to and am extremely thankful for.

I don't think this is said often enough, keep it up guys, you're doing a great job.

I posted a question on a range rover forum last week and got the **** reply from a moderator/administrator! It was my 10th or 11th post, obviously I was knew to the forum and the brand. I haven't posted since my "apology" for causing extreme grief and consternation -- what a way to treat a newbie! LOL

This forum is by far the best one I've ever been on, and I've been on a lot of them! I'm even a mod/admin on a classic car site and too much of our time is spent trying to tone down the sniping and name-calling!

[QUOTE]None of the mods get paid and neither do I[QUOTE]

Knew I should ha' read the small print.

@OldMike, we have lots of LR/RR owners/enthusiasts around here, why not have a stab in the Non-Jaguar vehicles section.

I can't guarantee you'll receive the tech answer you may be looking for, but I can guarantee you will be met with politeness and probably enthusiasm.

Especially if you are able to post up some pics.

Sorry but I think it is time for me to unsubscribe! And yes I know where the tool is! I find that this thread has no value but for someone to vent and so I will take the polite way to end it without getting sucked in….
