Default 2000 XJR Turn Signal have gone quiet?

Turn signals flash but the clicking noise has stopped. Is there some mechanism in the steering column that was producing the sounds and now has failed?

...if you haven't been feeding the little guy in the glove box with the wooden sticks then he died and so went the noise...

There is a small speaker in the steering column that generates the clicking sound. If I recall correctly, another poster some time ago allowed as how it is a real bother to replace - haven't done so myself.

This speaker also makes the door chime if you leave your keys in the ignition or leave the lights on and open the drivers door. If you still hear the chime then it's not the speaker. If you don't then it time to replace the speaker. Doen't look too bad. I have mine all pulled apart right now as I am replacing my turn signal switch. Pull off steering wheel column covers, air bag, then steering wheel, then it's right there. Maybe 30 min job. Just make sure the steering wheel is fully extended and all the way down and make sure you disconnect the battery aftre that.

Default Speaker

I read somewhere that you could use a speaker out of a desktop computer to replace the one in the steering column. I can't swear to it, since I've never tried (yet anyway), but it's worth a look.

Trivia: What the speaker plays can be changed. I forgot how to do this, but when I find it again I'll repost it.

The turn signal noise drives me insane.

Talking Speaker

I have always thought it would be nice if I could turn down the volume on the turn signal indicator. On the other hand, I guess I don't have to worry about driving around with an indicator flashing for no reason.

X2 on the broken wire at the speaker. Re-solder it and let it fly.

Looked at mine, seems connected ok, just that the sound only clicks about 1/4 the time. The lights flash just fine, just no sound.

Didn't see a break, but I didn't pull the wires out too far either.

thx
