Hi

I have been helping forum member ant17 with the issues he had with installing JTIS and getting it to work properly on his Vista 32 bit PC.
The DAO files in use error came up when he tried to install DAO files (JTIS CD: D:\DAC35\DISK1\setup.exe).
He also was getting an error code “0x80004005” when we tried a work a round method for registering the dao350.dll.
I found many articles on the internet about the “DAO files in use” issues over the last few weeks.
The fix became clear when I found and read a few of the articles on Vista User Account Control (UAC). Here is what I found and ant17 now is able to use the JTIS on his Vista PC. Here is the article that was on howtogeek.com:
In Windows Vista, UAC and its Admin Approval Mode are enabled by default. When UAC is enabled, local administrator accounts run as standard user accounts. This means that when a member of the local Administrators group logs on, they run with their administrative privileges disabled.
This is the how to part:
Disable User Account Control (UAC) the Easy Way on Win 7 or Vista
Open up Control Panel, and type in “UAC” into the search box. You’ll see a link for “Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off”:

On the next screen you should uncheck the box for “Use User Account Control (UAC)”, and then click on the OK button.

You’ll need to reboot your computer before the changes take effect, but you should be all done with annoying prompts.
Here is the weblink to the article on UAC disabling & enabling:

Here is a quote from forums.techarena.in: ””Reboot and enjoy the freedom to control your system as you wish””.
So reboot your PC.
Now you can fix the DAO install of the dao350.dll:
Here are the instructions on how to fix “DAO files in use” issues on JTIS CD DAO install:
Click on the Windows Start button and then select Run.
Then type cmd.exe in the Open box
Click on OK (this opens the DOS command screen)
Now Copy and Paste this line as shown in screen capture below:
CD\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO
Then hit the enter key – this will change the directory to the DAO (folder) --- The dos command CD means Change Directory
Next Copy and Paste this line:
regsvr32 /u dao350.dll
Then hit the enter key -- this will unregister dao350.dll that is in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO folder
You should now see the RegSvr32 popup with message that the
DllUnregisterServer in dao350.dll succeeded

Next step is to reregister
Copy and Paste this line:
regsvr32 dao350.dll
Then hit the enter key -- this will reregister dao350.dll that is in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO folder
You should now see the RegSvr32 popup with message that the DllRegisterServer in dao350.dll succeeded.
Here is the screen capture of the reregistering of dao350.dll:
![Vista 32 bit "JTIS DAO files in use" issues fix-dao-re-register-dao350-dll.jpg](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/attachments/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/10018d1480965877t-vista-32-bit-jtis-dao-files-use-issues-fix-dao-re-register-dao350-dll.jpg)
This completes the instructions on DAO fix for the “DAO files in use” issue.
If you have already run the JTIS install (JTIS cd: D:\setup.exe) and then all you have to do now is run C:\jaguar\jjtis.exe. This will bring you to the
JTIS screen. Then you click on Service button and now you should see a list of all the Jaguar models and the model years that are covered in this JTIS software.
Extra tip: If you are trying to find Engine components repairs (such timing chains, pistons, crankshaft, etc.) then you need to go to one of the earlier Model Years. Example Jaguar XJ models – use model year 1998 and you will be able to find these Engine components repair instructions.
Caution
At this point you should turn the Vista User Account Control (UAC) back on by enabling it. See instruction at the beginning of this thread. You click on the box. It puts a checkmark in the box for “Use User Account Control (UAC)”, and then click on the OK button
