Default Just fiddling around today

I've read that with the appropriate shuck & jive, later XJ6 front brakes can be adapted to the Mk 10. I'm not sure if this applies to brakes as late as the XJ40's, but since I have both cars sitting here, an initial exploration was in order.

The Mk 10 Dunlop brakes, 10¾" solid rotor.

The XJ40 bits, 11.45" vented rotors, here being given the eye by Scrufty the feline.
(Never a lack of help around my place!)

The Mk 10/420G cars were heavily influenced by the American market, and used 14" wheels, as I'm given to understand the only time Jaguar used that diameter wheel.

The Mk 10 wheels don't clear the larger XJ40 calipers, so if this swap proves possible I'll have to use other wheels.
This is a test fitting of the XJ40 teardrop wheels. I guess I could live with them if need be, but probably not my first choice.

Translator:
You'll note that Parker, (the dog), not only leans, but sometimes falls completely over! I think he's been getting into my beer.

Richard,

I think I have my project thread at various stages on about 4 forums, plus now its going in the JEC magazine and soon to be on my wordpress.

Retro, you need that project on as many sites as possible to give this gargantuan Jaguar some of the publicity that it deserves.

Im doing a calender for them this year... plug plug Not sure if I can advertise it here ??

Keep on with the updates Retro

I think I'll title this pic "Living the Vintage Lifestyle".
Funky ol' house, funky ol' car, funky ol' dog ....plus ... for those of us who were around in the early '70s, a real live funky chicken!

Vintage is pre 1930

You mean living the classic lifestyle - nice pic

PS. Get the original wheels back on it looks much better

Well, if nothing else the house qualifies, by 27 years!

Yeah, I think I share your opinion. As I said, I was just mucking about with stuff I had on hand to see how it looked.
In my stolen web pics, I have this one shot of a Mk 10 wearing what I think are the "E-type" wheels. Looks like they would be much more age-appropriate. Wish I had some other angles to look at.

That pic, with the car in front of the house, no hubcaps, it looks totally hotrod / rockabilly, I love it, please don't paint this car!

For sure fix the rust on the inside, but leave the paint as is, just stick a set of white-walls on it & cruise...

LOL ...!!!
Thanks for the props, Cambo.

If ya really like that pic, let me know. I'll email you a 2448 x 1632 pixel original version. You can use it for wallpaper, toilet paper or whatever.

You can thrill your Swiss buddies .... tell 'em you know an honest-to-God real suth-er-run redneck.
(Gotta use all three syllables in "southern" or they'll know you're faking it!)

Eventually, the car will be painted. At my usual rate of progress, (picture in your mind a constipated snail on quaaludes), it's gonna be a long, long time before any of us have to worry about that.

What y'all have to keep in mind is location.
In many areas, like southern California and possibly Switzerland, if someone saw a car like mine they might think "hey, nice patina .... cool!"
Problem is I'm in Mississippi. Hell, everybody's car looks like that ...!!!
Kinda loses the effect .....

Heck Retro, I'm in for the long haul.

Me and Parker both started off 'leaning', now we both have a 'gravitational issue'. (I'll get along fine with him)

If those XJ40 disks are too big, simply shave em down, they'll fit, eventually.

There you go....
