A lot going on at the moment with "Reggie" but hit a problem saturday any pointers welcome
The job in hand was changing the steering column gaiter it was one of those jobs that wasnt planned but when I had the carbs off & I noticed it had perished, so I didnt want to refit them without changing it. The strip down was easy enough untill I got to the socket. (If this picture has loaded its proped up with the screwdriver in the picture)
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...engineshot.jpg
Now at the top of the column there is round ball with flat sides and a round bar going through this. My problem is when you pull the socket up it catches on a round lip near the bottom of the socket so you cant pull the socket up and off :O(
Now on the new gaiter it said mk2 420 and a few other saloons so Im hoping someone here can gine me some pointers

420G March Update
With working away every free minute is pent on getting Reggie back together at the week-end.
Plus Ive been bringing parts down to my apartment during the week to help speed the rebuild process along.
In brief this is whats been done in March.
The three carbs were removed, refurbed and rebuilt, more on that when refitted and tuned.. I decided to do this myself as on my E-Type I paid about £400 which I was told by some guys was cheap…
Anyway I digress…
With the last carb off I noticed the steering column gaiter had perished this was easy to source but a few other issues reared their head.
Firstly I couldn’t get the socket off as I couldn’t get the pin out with my smallish vice, so I got a friend to do the job. Next I want to replace the thrust bearing this I couldn’t locate for love nor money. In the end another friend came to the rescue he told me to source some material and one of his staff in the machine room would make it.(these were delivered to me Wednesday he made me a couple)
So why all this was going on I refurbed the LSC, the UJ was fine so I didnt make work for myself
Fitted a better steering wheel, this was such an easy job on the E…..
All the wood came back from the French polishers and I re flocked the glove box
The seals got relaced and the chromes refitted
All my trim came back and the guy came and did the new headlining, at the same time all the vynil went off
Door cars came off, the picture shows there knackered..
But the inner doors are fine
Rebuilt the wood that needed it
Swapped the steering column bearings out
Done lots more beside but …….. more anon

Car-Nut,
You sir are a craftsman doing God's work.
There is a guy in Sweden who does projects similar to yours. He has a web site for his various Jaguar projects. Do a search some time. You two are birds of a feather and could no doubt have a beneficial exchange of ideas and information.
Thanks for sharing.

Car-Nut,
Go to jaguar.fiboy.com
You have a lot in common except he appears to be quite wealthy, has work space out the a-- and doesn't work, except on his Jags.
Well, okay, maybe you're better looking? Younger? Anyway you are both fascinating guys for sure.

Im working on space and on my new venture which means I'll give up my day job and work solely with my Jags Plan in motion.
jrwb before I re-furbed these were green as was the headlining, Ive not changed it from cinnamon. I chose biscuit to get more light in the car as one of its uses is going to be a wedding car as well as other things...
