Hi again. Here are the pics of the valet and driver keys from two different angles.
The upper one Has the valet key on the right. The lower one it is on the left. You can tell that there is some metal removed on the driver key presumably to allow it to be put all the way into the boot latch.
Please let me know what you think. I may be able to modify it myself but I would like to keep my key that works in the ignition unchanged.

The ignition key should work in every lock.

Looks like my message did not go through. Anyway, I hope I am not repeating myself. If you can get me just a second key to start my car. I will fiddle with the trunk after. It would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know the next step.

I was toying with the idea of getting a cutter myself, but just no time for such a project.
So I got two blank keys/FOBs for $20 each off ebay.
I went to a place near Trenton NJ to see if the guy would cut them and program them.
We had a great round of laughs, and he told me every Jaguar joke he knew (but later confessed how he actually likes them!)
So he was able to cut the Tibbe key. I told him Jaguar Owners call them "Tabby keys", and he didn't throw me out.
All programmed and cut, I now have 3 working keys instead of just one.
$180 for both copies, plus $40 I paid for the blanks.
So $110 each, and everything works. Seems fair to me.

Hi I am looking to get a key for my new to me 2003 XKR and key fob. I currently have one working key. No key fob or valet key. Are you able to do this? I read some pages in this thread but I dont think I see XK8/R listed. Thank you

I don't know if you can to the key programming (hope you can). Just bought a 2002 S-Type with only one key and need to have a key cut and rpogrammed. Would you be able to help me with that?

Thanks,

Max

I can CUT a new key, decoding the old one by pics.

I can clone the transponder, so that your car thinks the new key is the old key, but to do this, I need you to send me a working key. If you only have ONE working key, this is a major risk.

One thing which has become increasingly popular is to take the working transponder out of the key and glue it where the pickup ring is able to ping it, and not worry about transponders ever again -- any key with makes the lock turn will start the car.

The "cleanest" way to help you from this distance would be for me to make you a complete, new key, with factory-type transponder, and find someone in your area who can plug into your car with appropriate programmer and software to link the transponder and the car. Check around in the forum, there are some members who have this capability and might be willing to help. Sorry, I don't have any list (wish I did).

Thanks for the quick reply. Great idea abount removing the transponder and gluing it to the exterior of the steering column! I agree that sending you my only key to be duplicated is tempting fate. After a lot of searching I found a locksmith fairly near me that says he has the equipment to do the programming. At his suggestion I went to my local Jag dealer with the VIN and got the key code. The locksmith said he could purchase a remote with the spring-loaded and program it for a total cost of $ 120.00 which sound reasonable in the Jaguar universe.
Thanks again for youe hwlp,

You can read your own key code from the key itself. You don't need the dealer to tell you what you already have.

I copied an old TSB I got when I worked at the dealer. I made this .pdf about 20 something years ago.

The Tibbe key is actually pretty easy to read -- there are only 3 or 4 possible cut angles, and only 6 or 8 cut positions, and they are usually pretty clearly defined.

Mr Sone,
Would you say this is a T421231 key?
How may I request two keys be cut ? I have two spare fobs with two blank keys. Hoping they are the right blanks. I can program the transponders .

Thank you,
Dan

Dan. How can you program the transponder yourself ?? I thought that requires dealer level software ?
