You had the right idea. The 6-cut keys have 1-2-3-4, the 8-cut keys have 1-2-3 . . .amusingly, to the machine they are 1-3-4, with no 2.

The key is a T12321313.

Having an OEM transponder in the key would require hooking the car up to tell the computer to accept it.

Using a CLONE transponder makes the car think that any key is the one that was cloned, with nothing needing to be done to the car.

Thus, I can cut a key here in Nevada, and a locksmith in Louisiana can read and clone the key that you are holding, without risking it being shipped anywhere.

How much was the guy on ebay going to charge you for a key with the Megamos chip in it?

Default Price on eBay for keys

I’ll have to get back to you tomorrow on his exact quote, but I believe it was around $100 with shipping for two keys with transponders ….. but it might have been just one key. Need to find email.

I have a 87 XJS, now my trunk lock is locked and my key is missing. I need advice. Should I contact a Jag dealership, a locksmith, or Sone or what? My ignition key won't open the trunk.I don't think any chip is in the key but just lost the key somehow. I had help with another Jag problem and am suspicious my help carried the key home. Thanks for any advice.

First, even if there were a chip, it would have nothing to do with the trunk.

Call auto locksmiths in your area. This is a common blade-type key lock, so can be picked using standard methods.

I'm glad that he got you taken care of so quickly!

What did he do, and what did it cost?

He picked the trunk lock to open it. He found on my other Jag keychain a small rectangular metal tag with a number on it AK074. He looked that up on his cell phone and went back to his shop and made a key. He came back and the key worked. Cost was $41.00. Thanks Sone for your suggestion.

Smile Received New Tribbe Key by Sone

I just received my new transponder ignition key made by Keith (Sone) for my 99 XJ8. ery quick turnaround. It worked perfectly!!!! It is a big relief to now have a backup key for my Jaguar. I'm safely storing it so I no longer have to worry about not having an extra key for emergencies.

Thank you, Keith!

Smile Keys cut

Hi there. Great to have a supplier of Tibbe key in the US. Last time I had to order from somewhere in Australia. Do you have the ability to cut regular keys also? I also have a 1978 Alfa Romeo and got a hold if three key blanks. I can't seem to find someone that will cut steel key blanks. Let me know of you can do this please.

Kind regards,

Ruben Velez

What model of Alfa do you have? What type number is on the keys? Steel keys are a problem, I'll see if I can get brass or aluminum blanks for it -- it would be cheaper to buy better blanks than to pay the extra surcharge for cutting steel.
