Jaguar XJ8 1998 - 2003
Description:

I am looking to purchase a third brake light for my 1998 Vanden Plas. I have the actual light module, but no housing. Willing to purchase complete unit though. I prefer a black one, but Color is not an issue as I can paint it.

Hi, I have two:

1) one from a 1986 XJ-S V12 Coupe which mounts inside on the rear shelf or outside on the trunk lid,

2) one from a 1987 XJ-6 which mounts to the glass. The removable cover is black.

I do not know if the curvature of the glass is the same as in the 1998 car or if the lamps themselves are the same.

If you can insert a picture of your lamp I can tell if they are different or similar.

The XJ6 MIGHT work, I'm not sure. Maybe someone could weigh in on that?
Many thanks

I will take a picture of the XJ-6 lamp and post it here. Yours looks longer horizontally, could be the angle you took.

I confused the black cover of the XJ-S lamp.

The XJ-6 lamp does not look the same length as yours which seems to be a 5 bulb lamp. The early lamps have 4 bulbs so it is shorter.

I still may be interested. This car I want it for is going to be my "everyday" car and for travel as well. I'm not super concerned about it being a little different if I can fit it on the window. How much would you want for this one?

both the XJ-S and XJ-6 are $125.00 each.

I can paint the cover satin black and include double-sided Gorilla mounting tape for easy mounting, just press it on the glass after cleaning the glass area with alcohol, making sure the lamp is level and centered. That's how I did both my Jags and I supplied a lamp for British Auto Wood's Jaguar and he also did it with tape.
It won't fall off , that's why you need to make sure of the centering, and the leveling before pressing it in place, the tape is super-strong.

Wiring and the connector at the lamp is included but you might need to splice the two wires to your wiring if your lamp connector is different. I will include a couple of miniature wire splicers.

For payment please send a pm.

That sounds fair. Thanks for the “extras” too. Tomorrow I will measure the dark area of the glass and make sure that it’s going to look at least decent. Many thanks, and talk tomorrow!

Jose, I was looking for a pair of trunk lights on eBay, and when I did the search, this came up so I bought it. It didn’t come up under “third brake light” so it must have been listed under the wrong category. Dumb luck for me, sorry man. I do appreciate your help though. You wouldn’t happen to have a set of trunk lights, would you? Complete with the plastic frames?

that one is more modern than mine.

do you mean the light inside the trunk that comes on when you open the trunk lid?

I have 2 variants of those, XJ-6 1980-1987,
and XJ-40 1988-2000.

See if you can find a picture of the one in
your car.

I think the XJ40 versions would work...here are the ones on my other car, 2003 XJ8. Let me know, maybe send pic?

are you trying to add more light in the trunk? or replace broken lamps?

here's the XJ40 pair. These were used in the trunk and behind the headrests on some models.

That’s not what I’m needing. I am wanting a set to add to to the trunk of my other XJ8...1998. The ones in there re broken up. So I’m looking for ones like I posted, not adjustable for behind the headrests. I appreciate your efforts sir!

Hi, if you still need an XJ8 3rd brake light, I have one, left over from my 99 VDP. It is complete, with the housing cover (color code was SDZ, but I suppose you could paint it any color you like). It does not come with the harness- just reuse yours.

Let me know what your Email address is and I will send you a few pics. $60 plus whatever it costs to ship to you
