2014 Katie's Cars & Coffee - Great Falls, VA

Last Saturday, 1/4/14, was cold, rainy and icy. That, plus the mass of salt and sand on the streets kept me (and probably most others) home.
Here are some pictures from 1/11/14. It rained all morning, and there was still a little snow on the ground, but it warmed up from 38F into the mid-40's, so it wasn't too bad. Some die-hards came out, and brought their cars. I know I wasn't going to miss Katie's two Saturdays in a row!

What would you expect on a Saturday morning in mid-January, cold, and lightly snowing? Would anyone show up for the Cars & Coffee? I went to find out...
An especially good turnout, considering it was breezy, with temperatures in the twenties, and a dusting of snow on the ground! 4 Jaguars in attendance...
The next time we have a clear, warm Saturday, this place is going to be a zoo.

Early this week, we had snow - about 4 - 5", as well as single-digit morning temperatures. It finally 'warmed up' to 21F this morning, so I went to Katie's. Full disclosure - I'm having work done to the Jaguar, so I have a loaner Land Rover. There's still snow and ice in my neighborhood, and the county outdid themselves with putting salt down. The result - ugly roads, and a dry but cold morning. The result - far fewer than the usual turnout of interesting cars at Katie's -- but not a complete dearth of interesting cars, and certainly a good group of Car People inside!
We've noticed that nasty weather brings out more German cars than any others. BTW, in the first picture, how did that pristine Audi SUV get there?

The last couple of weeks in Northern VA have consisted of snow, salt and single-degree mornings. When the first day of February arrived, we were all ready for winter to be 'over'. When I left the house, it was 29F, and we all thought spring was here! Some folks even arrived with their tops down...
A pretty good showing, including 2 Jaguars & a Range Rover.

Cold, but no snow this morning. Less salt on the roads than recent weekends. It's obvious that some of us can't stay away. The first picture is of the Katie's lot as of 7:43AM. Two XK's there today!
Bev displayed her authentic Hertz signage on her GT-H.

P.S.: Save the date! Our third 'A Pride of Jaguars' event will be held at the Fair Lakes (Kohl's) location, on Sunday, May 4th. Tell your Jaguar friends!

It's been a fairly bad winter here in Northern Virginia. Just as the streets start getting cleared of snow, we get hit with another snowstorm. This is the first weekend fairly free of snow, ice, salt and sand. It's not that there wasn't snow - but the lot was clear, and as long as you avoided potholes, the streets were OK.
Everybody knew what that meant - a cool, clear Saturday, with relatively clean streets brought out the multitudes.
I guess I did cheat by putting the picture of the XJ in, since I think they were visiting the dry cleaners, not really attending the cars & coffee.

Marsden:
There's a staircase at the top of the lot, to an office on the second floor. When I need to get a general shot of the lot, or an overhead, I go up there. Below are a few of my favorite overheads shots from there.
This past Saturday, we were invaded by a photography class. Good idea, and lots of interesting things to shoot - but, I'd advise their instructor to first teach the students a bit more 'situational awareness'. The guy was kneeling down in the middle of the lot, ignoring traffic. (Not that it's just these guys - we regulars sometimes wander across in front of incoming vehicles.)

I've heard a lot about the Katie's Coffee gig from my fellow mustang club guys. I'd have to get up by 4 AM to make that meet, as I live in Severna Park, MD. My local Sunday morning gig is "The Church of the Holy Donut" in Burtonsville. It's only a 35 minute spin for me. There were a few cars there this past Sunday, particularly kool was '39 LaSalle rod.

The first Saturday in March. 17 degrees, clear, no wind. ...but, the streets are dry, with not too much salt & grit. As we now know, that's all a large group of us need to go out to Katie's. Bobert had the only Jaguar there, his XKR Coupe. I had the only other Brit car I saw, my Elise.

No snow since Monday, and much of the snow, salt and sand was off the streets. The morning started at around 32 degrees, and quickly warmed up. Though a good amount and variety cars were at Katie's, but no Jaguars, at all. (Plenty of other British cars there, though...
The Murano convertible deserves special mention, because it's the only car I can think of with two (over/under) rear windows. It may be the spiritual successor to the Pontiac Aztek.

A really good showing of cars in general - including Jaguars - at Katie's this St. Patrick's Day weekend.
I'm going to try something a little different - the last two pictures in this post are of a friend's Lotus Elan. The pictures were taken 6 minutes apart. My question - what unique Elan feature causes this? [We don't just entertain, we educate!]
