Default 1965 Jaguar S-Type 38l rear bumper brackets.

searching for the 4 rear metal bumper brackets the attach to the rubbers on the body. The old studs had to be cut off and brackets did not survive. I have searched SNG with no luck. The part numbers I have are BD25216 (1), BD25217 (1), and BD25218 (2). If anyone has any leads to finding these I would appreciate it. If not I will have to have them made. Thanks

No longer made and as you and your Dad have found out they have to be cut off the old bumpers because the bolts rust in. I think I sent your Dad some pictures and dimensions of the bumper brackets before he passed so check his Email account for those details. It would be easier to have them made as they are a very easy design to copy and can be made from mild or stainless steel. Don't forget to keep us informed of Miss Kittys progress on the S Type Forum.
This is the crude drawing and dimensions I sent him. Dimensions are in CM not inches.

Ah! Rob has sorted you out. Once brackets are made & bumpers cleaned up.

The original bumper over riders & side bumper webs came fitted with captive/caged nuts that look like this. Jaguar calls them "grip nuts" in the parts catalogue. You can see their P/N's in the tables I posted below. As Rob says the damn things rust into a single blob behind the over rider webs & side bumper webs that I did not remove. Side bumper webs are easy to clean up & insert grip nuts. I cut out my over rider webs, cleaned everything up properly. Fitted new plated grip nuts. Rewelded the webs & then sent the over riders for re-chroming. They are a PIA! Barratts can supply captive nuts/grip nuts and other fixing hardware.

Bolts for rear bumper mounts into engine mountings/rubber mounts. (the rubber mounts are just engine mountings)

Side of bumper rubber mounts are attached to body studs with chromed dome nuts as they are visible ~ same as cam cover nuts.

Be careful screwing in stud number (59) in diagram. You can dent the over rider from the inside outwards.

So pleased you are continuing with your late Dad's labour of love!

Thank you gentleman. I will get to making these then. I appreciate the response. So far I was able to get the Grill assembly, front bumper, mirrors, and wipers on. I built the rear bumper then moved on to the dash. I believe my dad planned on replacing all of the gauges so I am looking to find where I can find those also. I found his jag journal on his computer with Glens photo diary as well as all of his pictures, resources, and vendors. So far SNG hasn't been real helpful on most of the parts I am looking for. I did put a new battery in her today as the old one was dead due to the stereo being hooked up wrong and drawing power while the car was off. But she fired right up and sounded great.

Hi,
did Joe die? what happened? I had no idea.

Captain Joe was a good friend and I supplied him a number of parts.

I can get the rear bumper brackets unless you prefer to make them.
Otherwise you can contact me by PM and I will get you price info.
Thanks.

Yes Jose, Joe died a couple of months ago from a heart attack. It was mentioned on the S Type forum. His son has picked up the baton to finish Miss Kitty. Any parts or advice you can help with would be appreciated.

With Barratts much depends on who you deal with. They don't know what they have. Best to always quote/search by P/N because their inventory in the UK at least is accurate.

If you go to my thread on the Register I cover the restoration of gauges & David Reilly turned it into an article in the Newsletter. You might be able to get someone to do this for you. Not difficult if they all work as mine did.

1965 Jaguar 3.8 S Type, Sync4, OD, PAS, BRG/Biscuit on chrome wires back on the road after 30 years. - THE INTERNATIONAL JAGUAR "S"-TYPE REGISTER FORUM

New Gauges can be sourced from.

https://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk...s-1963-to-1968

Look under products. Different models used different gauges so be careful ~ e.g. Rev Counter with & without clock & red lines from 5500RPM on 3.8 S Type. Speedo range (140mph) and some models had a low fuel light. Not S type etc. Ammeter should have a small 30 on it below the centre mark on models with standard 30 amp dynamo/generator. Ammeter is Lucas ~ all other gauges are Smiths.

Restored gauge example. My fuel gauge (most important thing is to have glass spotless & assemble in a dust & lint free environment. You don't want to see dust or fingerprints when lit).:

Glyn I know the original clocks had black bezels but have you any pictures of them fitted with chrome bezels. I had thought of changing mine over to chrome but would like to see what they look like before committing myself.

I don't really Rob. I've seen the odd car but have no decent pictures. Be careful it can look very blingy.

Don't like the white dials but the chrome bezels on the black background look OK. The only reason I want to look is all the switches have a chrome ring as in the E Type photos and I think the chrome bezels would look not out of place. I would like to see an S Type with all the wood and chrome bezels to see if that looks OK. I might have to just try it. I can always go back to black as once Amy said.

I'll keep my eyes open! I have 1061 S Type dash pics & not one with chrome bezels.

Do you know how sad that is Glyn that you have so many photos of Jaguar dash boards and you had to clarify it with S Type dash pics.lol. How many have you got of all the Jaguar dash boards in total?
Only joking as it is a tremendous resource to have and use both on here and on the S type forum.

Good morning Glyn, do you know how much the 4 gauges on the center console cost brand new? I tried to clean up the old ones and I am not happy with how the look.

These are the gauges available from SNG Barrett but there will be other companies who will supply them.

https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#...20%60gauges%60 Fuel gauge £135
https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#...20%60gauges%60 Oil pressure gauge £75
https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#...20%60gauges%60 Water temp £88
https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#...0%60ammeter%60 Ammeter No longer available.

If you are not happy with the result you have got you could always send the old gauges to someone like speedy cable https://speedycables.com/ who can refurbish the original ones. This is a UK company but there is bond to be an equivalent company in the US. The Ammeter is specific to the S Type and not the same as the Mk2 ammeter. Both the water gauge and the oil gauge above from SNG are refurbished and the Fuel gauge is a reproduction. Better and cheaper to get the originals refurbished by a professional company who will not just clean the glass and dial but will clean the electrics inside then re calibrate them so you know they are working correctly.

Oh boy. You might have to shop around. They vary from about £113.00 to £134.65 per gauge. Look at David Manners website and punch in Keyword Gauge. They have some in stock & some available to order. Barratts only has the fuel gauge at £134.65.

Remember they are all Smiths other than the Ammeter which is Lucas.

I would contact David Manners and see if they can order in what they don't have and get you the full set.

Sorry Rob we posted over one another. I did not include reconditioned. The repro at Barratts is I believe made by Smiths Instruments above on the old tooling. (they are not the original Smiths company). Link above.

Otherwise I agree with Rob ~ have the originals refurbished. (If we could achieve the standard of my fuel gauge shown above a refurbisher should at least match or better that)

This is the standard & correct Ammeter for an S Type with standard generator/dynamo. Small 30 below the centre marking. (needs attention ~ old pic from Ebay)
