1966 Mk2 3.4 Auto Fuel Problem
Greetings,
My Mk2 has been in storage for quite sometime and I am now getting it back to road condition. have had it running .. my problem is the pipe from the electric fuel pump to the fuel tank seems to be blocked or maybe there is a non return valve on that line that is stuck???
the fuel pump will draw fuel from a jerry can via a hose so the pump is ok. but will not draw from tank.. I can not blow or suck fuel from the tank... any suggestions or advice would be most welcome to remedy this problem.

I can't remember if there is a tank drain plug below the pipe pickup, (I sold my self-rebuilt Mark 2 in 1988 !!). However, I would have thought that there is, if nothing else, how does one drain the tank ? So there could be a gauze filter there that is blocked. The XJ saloons certainly have such a filter, and I suspect the Mark 2 is no different.
I would suggest draining the tank, cleaning out the gauze filter, (if any), and trying an airline down the pipe back to the tank. AFAIK there is no non-return valve in the pipe run.

There is a big metal mesh filter, and it would require several rat's nests top plug fully off.
There is a plastic line to the metal line. As said, drain the tank (and it's going to be a mess if you don't have the uprated drain bung with separate small drain in the centre), and once out, run a wire (straightened coat hanger or welding rod) down the pipe, then blow out with spray carb cleaner, re-install bung, pour some of the petrol back in (not all in case you have to do this again), and try it.
