Default 1967 420 - AC Line Routing under car

Does anyone have any pictures of how their AC lines are routed under the car? I'm adding an Old Air trunk mounted AC unit and using Vintage Air U-Bend-Em aluminum lines under the car. I have them mounted on the inside of the left "frame rail" but things get really crowded right by the rear of the engine.
Did the factory run them on the outside of the rail? I was doing my best to keep them tucked up but I'd love to hear how others are doing it.

In the pictures below I have the center muffler heat shield dropped out of the way.

Looks like I can answer my own question. From the Jaguar AC guide it looks like they go outside the rail.

What do we think is a better material here? Rubber AC hose or aluminum tubing?

Hi Thorsen,
Outside is correct, as you found out. Either type of tubes/hoses will work. The Al lines won't need as many supports to stay up, rubber are insulated. The OEM I worked for used Al lines for aux A/C units. If you do put them on the inside of the frame rail you'll need to shield them from the exhaust system heat.

Thanks Bob. I got under the car and saw where the mounting points were on the outside.
This is the #6 pressure line. I was trying to avoid having it exposed like this going around the rail but it seems like this is a better option than being right next to the exhaust.

#6 pressure line from the bottom of the condenser to the back of the front wheel well.

Here it is clamped in place.

All over the place from my large collection of underbody shots.

Seems most common.

Refresh page. Just edited. I agree with Bob_S. keep it as far away from the exhaust as possible. You have no option but to run it close to the one rear silencer. Because that is where your connection to the evapourator is next to the IRS bridge piece.

Thorson just to be clear the image is from the Development drawings that are part of the Hornburg files. There is a lot more information that was not printed. If you need anything in your efforts please contact the Coventry Foundation. While the 420 SPC has drawings and part numbers we hold the photographs of the parts and the instructions for your install. We also know where 2 NOS kits are located and could connect you with the owner.

And as usual the CF don't share with all. They jealously guard information & try to act as "big shots"

Disgusting behaviour! ~ but par for the course. We have experienced it for years.

Why not post for all to see????

Mr. Ruck we do share with all but we are not going to post 40 pages of drawings and instructions which would only apply to a few. What exactly is your issue?. We do good work and further the hobby as well as provide for future workers to take care of these cars as well as secure the history in North America.

What absolute nonsense! Could be done in a single pdf. You have a reputation here like something smelly I trod on.

This is not the first time ~ it's public history. The Jewel in the Crown of Internet Brands Automotive ~ MBWorld (followed by Audi) where I mod & am an ambassador would not accept you as a sponsor. One phone call to Toronto & you would be out.

Please manage yourself and we will manage our efforts. Just for the record the image posted earlier is from our files so it was shared!

Please note my comment "You have a reputation here like something smelly I trod on." If you are happy with that ~ so be it.

Post a pdf. It's the least you can do. Or is that too much like hard work???

I am the reason MBWorld has open access to the WIS & EPC of all Benz vehicles as long as no modification/editing takes place which is absolutely reasonable by Mercedes Benz.

Hi Glyn M,
Why must you insult people and organizations? I feel that CF has been helpful to these forums. Anytime I needed something, CF has been more than willing to help me out.

That is not the history of their behavior on this forum. Suggest you look back over time with the likes of TilleyJon etc. Their behaviour has generally been to be supercilious at best. Is it that difficult to post one pdf. for all?

I note you don't spend much time here. BTW ~ I agree with your comments on routing in post 6 as I say above if you missed it.

You have made it plain that you don't like me and I'm fine with that. I pass a joke on barn door engineering & you take umbrage when it was a Jeremy Clarkson joke I was repeating, leaving BillMac to explain it's origins.

My input into this forum exceeds all of you & it's not even my prime forum. Never had a single complaint at MBWorld where I'm hitting 20,000 posts helping people with their cars on top of modding.

Thorsen, Sorry for derailing your post.

As I said, that has NOT been my experience with CF,

But when you start calling names/insults/bullying you lost any chance at winning a rational argument and getting cooperation from others.

No, I didn't miss that, but that had nothing to do with my comment on the way you responded to CF. If I was wrong, I would expect someone to correct me in a cordial manor.

Bully for you! Get used to South Africans & Aussies. We are different to you. This is a global forum. As they say "when in Rome do as the Romans do". During my very long stay in the US ~ Dallas & Marin County, Bay Area, I adopted your excessively PC ways with no problems whatsoever.

Sorry Thorsen ~ I will get out of your thread & help wherever I can. Getting a single pdf out of CF would appear impossible so all learn. The very foundation of these forums. Not by PM's
