Default 62 3.8 Original Color

My car has been painted what seems a dozen tines! Is there a body color code on the data plate. The interior is tan.

If you drop the center consul to check the fuse box you should be able to see the original color of the dash which should be the original color of the car. Has the engine compartment and trunk been painted as well?
The Jaguar Heritage foundation can also tell you the original color of the car.

That is certainly an interesting color.
As Felixbobcat, said, your best bet is to find the original color on the interior of the car. The entire inside of the car was painted body color at the factory. Look under the dash, under the carpets, etc. Unless someone did a nut and bolt restoration at some point, you will find the original color. There is no color code on the car itself.

I’m stripping the undercoating from the engine compartment. The undercoating wasn’t painted and the metal under that is red primer.
ill be removing the interior soon so I’ll look then.
thanks.

I'm not sure that is a tan interior. My car was originally tan, which is really an orange colour. I first described it as pumpkin.

I think they sprayed the engine compartment with body colour, but without primer on top of the body schutz. The result was that most dark colours look like black unless you inspect very carefully - it's certainly the case for my opalescent dark green. As CDG wrote, the best place to find the original colour is inside, behind the dash and under the seats.

This is original Jaguar Tan. See the wear on the drivers seat for authenticity.
