Default 64 MK2 mystery part

Can anyone tell me what this part is? I found it in the LH fender cavity below the mounting for the radio aerial. I don't think it is part of the aerial, but perhaps I am wrong. Any ideas?
Thanks.

could be part of the aerial or the aerial crank assembly.

Do you have the standard manual retractable aerial as fitted to many British cars of the 60's?

If so, it looks like it could be the collar arrowed in red.

I don't know if these aerials are more robust now but they used to fall apart regularly in the 70's and I replaced a few!

Default 64 MK2 mystery part

Thank you for the responses. I have the hand crank aerial, which after some work by friends functions perfectly. I am afraid that I don't understand how the crush sleeve works and where exactly it would fit in the assembly. Can you help me with that?
