Default Air Intake - Dual Intakes - Are The Gas Lines in the Way?

Okay, here's the history...

When I got the car, there wasn't an air filter nor an air filter housing. Just the two dual intakes open to the atmosphere.

Now today, I gently powerwashed the engine compartment. I clogged both intake ports with rags to keep out water. But as I was thinking about it, it seemed like the fuel lines that lead to the floats are in the way of the air filter housing.

Is this correct?
Please see attached pics.
Is this where the lines are suppose to be?

Also what can I use in lieu of an manufacturer's air filter housing? Any modern or innovative upgrades?

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

As far as I can tell from several similar of different 250's, the Air Filters should be:

There is this type as well and looks like what yours had. The tops of the float chambers and the fuel lines have to be changed to accommodate this type of air cleaner.
It may be easier just to locate the other type in GGG's post.

Many thanks, JeffR1 & GGG!
I'm a visual learner. So by posting the pics other questions I was going to ask are already answered.

Are there any alternatives to either of these options?
Anyone ever do something else .... connecting other braces/brackets to other types of air filters?

I don't have anything now, so I'm willing to experiemt....
