Default Body Panel needed

If anyone knows of an early Jag Sedan being cut up, please let me know. I need the panel behind the Battery. I've been searching but no luck yet.

Common problem caused by water running down the bonnet then down the back of the battery into the felt pad where it stays. Mix that with a bit of acidic gas and that panel takes a beating. I found someone breaking a 420 and they cut the panel out for my along with the rear inner wings which I then welded into place.
Good luck finding a part in the USA there must be someone breaking a 420, S Type or Mk2 shell somewhere. Not sure what an XJ6 bulkhead looks like and if this is compatible.

I removed the glove box (left hand drive) and padding so I could access it from the back, something that would have to be done anyway if welding things up.
I used JB-Weld; once sanded down and prepped, it looks very original.
I built it up on the inside for strength.

I've just squashed 2 ~ what a pity. Any good tin basher can knock that up for you in sheet steel of the right gauge in very little time. My guy would knock out one from scratch in half an hour & cut and MIG weld it in another half an hour. Yes he is unusually capable in this regard. He did the entire floor of a Studerbaker with every detail & stamping completely correct in a day. On an English Wheel he is a master. Only 35 years old.

The correct tools are required.

When you put the Hardura Felt pad back. Have it heat sealed in black or clear textured Vinyl. That's what I did. Was accepted by concours Judging Panel as sensible but still original because the right size felt was there.

IIRC it is 11" X 5" ~ Now confirmed. See snip from Parts Manual

mine is intact, there is no applied felt behind the battery but a squared cut piece of fiberglass sheet that someone added years ago between the battery and the firewall before I purchased the car, same size as the battery. I have kept it there but as far as I know, no water drains behind the battery? 1965 S type.

Wrong Jose ~ see above. Jose's car is a 64 built freak. Even has sunroof roof-lining but no metal sunroof. Has no roll around the roof-lining. A completely quirky car that someone has fiddled with or the plant ran out of certain materials.

But there is not another one like it anywhere that anybody knows of. i.e. It is a poor reference car.

If you had it's documented history back to when it was ordered from the plant matters would be different. But you don't. It's always been the oddball on the Register.

Time to take your medication again Glyn.
Although your S type is concourse in reality it has been made up as you have stated a couple of times from three S types shells you had stored until recently. We have also discussed on the S Type forum several times that there is not really one S Type. The cars were all altered one way or another between 1963 and 1968 from the factory and when restoring or repairing an S type it is difficult to gauge which replacement parts you should be using to maintain its originality. 1964/1965 was a difficult time in the UK to keep a steady flow of parts at the Jaguar factory due to strikes so no two cars around this time ever really came out the same.
I personally would say the your S Type is a one off rather than Jose's because of the meticulous effort you have so rightly been praised for during the research and build of your "One of a kind" S type. Way better then mine as mine like Jose's has been fiddled with.

Put that way agreed Rob. But Jose's car is an extreme outlier thus a poor reference. I have taken my daily meds as a diabetic.

Other prods irrelevant.

I agree that Jose's car is not a good reference in some ways as mine is not in so many ways but in others it is correct. It is knowing where it is correct or not correct that Jose slips up but I am sure you will always be there to remind him. lol.

well I never have tried to make my S tyoe a "reference" for anyone to follow !! I don't understand the "rucus" with "Jose's car".

My car is fabulous, and I made it even more so by adding XJ-6 powered door mirrors and switch, a modern XJ-6 radio and speakers, XJ-6 claxons, a more comfortable steering wheel, and powerful driving lights. Still more to do like Alternator, engine, and headliner. Do I look for aporoval of my mods? No. It's my party and I cry if I want to.

I have two friends who have offered to buy the car and I have expressed my thanks and my NO Thanks.
So I have no worries.
Relax boys.

Thought I'd post an update. Finally installed a patch panel onto the acid burned firewall. Many thanks to Jerry Hoback for supplying the piece I needed to have the welder install it. Might need a little filler to make it perfect but much better then what was poorly repaired previously.


I also had the welder attach a nut to the inside for the ground strap. Didn't look like that was done in the factory which to me didn't make any sense.

a felt pad behind the battery? what the? wouldn't felt absorb water causing rust ? Maybe that is why someone replaced the felt with a sheet of fiberglass in my car, fortunately I have no rust in that area, the battery holdown is intact and so are the two brass bolts. The entire bulkhead is solid.

What is rusted, are the coolant tubes from the heater box. I have a new stainless steel set to replace them but trying to save the orginal rubberized Elbows connecting the old tubes to the heater box has been a nightmare, I don't want to tear them.
