Default Cylinder Head Colour

Hi,

Does anyone know what the colour code for the cylinder head paint on a 3.8 MK2 should be? I understand its suposed to be dark blue.

Does anyone know where I could obtain this in the UK?

Thanks in advance fro any help.

Default Cylinder head colour

I purchased a spray can of the metallic blue from SNG Barratt USA, so I assume SNG in the UK would also have it.

Default Cylinder Head Colour

It is true that there is a Duck Egg Blue, but that is not what you want if your head was originally the metallic blue. Two different colors.

Default Example of cylinder head painting

Here is a detailed discussion of painting the cylinder heads: Cylinder head painting - Jaguar Mk2 Restoration

In this example, the color is turquoise green which designates a B1 head for either the 2.4 or 3.4 models. As indicated by Lin, the 3.8 is a different metallic blue color.

Sorry to resurrect this, but does anyone know what colour a 1970 Series 1 2.8 XJ 6 head should be. I am pretty sure ours was always silver, but it would be nice to confirm, whilst we have everything stripped.

Thanks

TilleyJon as far as I know, Jaguar stopped painting cylinder heads starting with the XJ in 1968. They are not painted silver but unpainted aluminium.

Jose Jaguar stopped in 1967 but that could be for the MY68 cars. All models (E included) had blonde Alu. castings.

Thanks - ours is a 1970 model, but built in South Africa so we could easily be a couple of years out on that. I can definitely see silver paint, so it has always been painted.

Jose not a typo==blonde alu is the way it is referred to --if you wish plain alu. Just like the engine began in the XK120--no paint.

Default Head color code

Very helpful thread on head color-thanks. I have a 1962 MK2 3.8 but the head is painted green. I understand the 62 3.8 B1 head should be Metallic Blue. Does anyone have a paint code for this color? Just don't want to spend $50+ for $10 worth of paint.

Default 3.8 Mettalic Blue

Barrett's metallic blue is too light in colour. These are correct for 3.8.

Those heads look beautiful! Do you have a color code or other identifier so I could source the paint locally?
