Daimler 250 parts
Hello all. I live in northern regional NSW. Just bumped into a chap that had a 250 daimler V8 motor, a large box of spares that look to be for a daimer of sorts. There were leaf springs and a bit of chrome work.
The motor was essentially a "short" motor - didnt have water pump or carbies and quite a few of the various holes into the motor (eg for water, exhaust, fuel) have been left open.
How rare are these things. What sort of value can be placed on it as a ball park figure?
Thanks

Yes, sort of rare, but not the type that makes something expensive and desirable.
The engine was only made for a short time for the Daimler sp250, I don't know how long Jaguar even used that engine, probably until stock was depleted.
It may be of some value, but you only have the block, so something like that doesn't usually fail, any one that has a Daimler badged Jaguar probably won't need just the block, the desirable bits like the carbs, generator etc.are gone already.
If the chrome bits are in good shape, then that will be worth something, they will also fit on a Jaguar, can't say how much though.
There probably is someone out there where the block is cracked, but finding that person may be impossible.
And BTW, you're in NSW, photo's show fire there, are you OK !
We get fires here on the BC South Coast here on Vancouver Island, but not like yours !

Thanks Jeff. The heads are on it too so the cams and valves and rockers etc should all be there. Pretty sure the exhaust manifold is in the box.
Chrome work appears to include window surrounds, hubcaps etc. Not sure about the generator and other bits and pieces though.
Thank for your concerns about the fires. NSW is pretty big luckily (same size as France or Germany) about 80 million hectares. About 5 million have burnt since about September last year. There havent been too many fires close to us thank goodness but we have been smoke affected for weeks.
While the animals dont grow back (sadly), the bush has already started to regenerate in those areas burnt more than a couple of months ago. In another 2 years you will be hard pressed to identify areas that burnt in this season.

Yes, forgot about the heads, probably aluminum, so prone to cracking and warpage, so if they are in good shape, they may be worth something, but still, with so few of these out there ???
When we have fires it takes 100 years for the trees to get big again and our fires are caused by carless smokers and people who think it's OK to light a camp fire, the rest is from dry lightening strikes.
2 years isn't' long, but the loss of property and wild life is unimaginable.
One fire we had, the smoke hung around all summer, it was awful.
And just thought of this, try contacting these guys, there is bound to be a better response and there may even be someone that will be interested.

Thats pretty much the same with us Jeff. However when a eucalypt forest burns the actual trunk and branches of the trees blacken but dont burn (as a pine forest would) and they regenerate quickly. Bizarrely our trees lose their back and small branches and maintain the leaves during most growing seasons. This means you get a LOT of undergrowth and material buildup on the floors of these forests. For the last 40,000 years or so the indigenous folk would burn off these forests in controlled ways (low wind, cool temps) thus lowering the fuel load. This meant that when an uncontrolled bush fire came through the fuel load was such that the flames couldnt reach the tops of the trees where the Koalas etc live and werent necessarily as fast moving or big. For various reasons these controlled fuel reduction fires which the white folk have also been doing over the last 200 years are getting more difficult to do thus the fuel has built up and the fires are of such an intensity that they reach the canopy of the forest and kill all the animals trying to shelter there.
Back to the daimler parts. I thought that the Mk II type daimlers all had those V8s in them.

Hi Jeff. No i haven't. As i personally have no interest in buying the motor or other parts its not something i would do. The current owner got it and the boxes of parts as part of a transaction where he was buying a box trailer and these were in it. He told me he hasnt tried turning it over at this stage.
