Morning all,Can anyone tell me the best way to re-bush the inner tie rod joints on the steering of a Mk2? Iv seen the replacement bushes for sale and links where the bushes have been changed but cant find much info on doing the job.My joints have never been changed and still have the domed cover over the back of the bush-so does this just break out when the bush is pressed out? Or do you drill around the outer edge and break the cover out or are the joints perhaps not suitable for re-bushing-any advice greatfully received,Regards Paul.

Hi Paul,
If you are referring to the tie rod assembly part no C22679, this is not repairable, and the complete tie rod will need to be replaced the cheapest place is DG Manners if you are in the UK, but you can try SNG to see if they will price match too, they are often negotiable.
From Jag Manual
"TIE ROD
The tie rod ball joints cannot be dismantled and if
worn a complete tie rod assembly must be fitted."

Hi Tilley jon and thankyou for coming back to me on my question-Maybe I did not describe to well? the part im hoping for advice on is the drag-link? That C22679s inner ball joint fits into,it has a metalastic bush that then fits into the steering box or idler depending on which side you are working on-they screw into either end of a tube that can then be turned to adjust the toe in/out of the steering, and it is the removal of that bush that is my problem? Kind regards Paul.

Hi Paul,
Ah got it, you probably mean the tie rod bush assembly, there is one either side, the bush assy is part No C17099 , superseded with SNG Barratt's to part No 133101
These fit into the tie rod assemblies C29089 and C29090 for each side, the bushes are changed as a part rather than the bush, they are pressed or driven out, the cap is part of the bush.
You will probably need a tube or use a socket the same size or just a little smaller than the outside section of the bush and pressing it out would be best to avoid damaging the casting. You could apply some heat to the casting to expand the metal to help with removal
I hope this helps.

Hi Jon and thanks once again for your interest in my question-yes those are the bushes i have the problem with and im glad to read your reply which agrees with other people/parts suppliers iv spoken to,somewhere id picked up the idea that only some of these tierods were repaireble and mine have the apearence of a sealed unit, thats to say that the casting looks like it would break before the back of the bush seperated but i think thats rubbish and the key to the problem is the press? So im going to orderup the bushes and head to my local machine-shop for the final opinion, thanks once again, all the best Paul.
