Default Difference in early/late Mk1 saloons

I was wondering if there were any other changes made between the early Mk1 saloons (1955-1956) and the later years (1957-1959) besides the enlargement of the grille area.

I am thinking about switching my build over from a 58 to a 55 chassy, as the 55 seems to be much less rusty. but I want to make sure the pile of parts i have will be compatible. Hood, doors, windshield, bumpers, etc.

Also, can I do a direct swap of the stock disc brake setup from the 58 (all completely rebuilt) to the 55? There is already a cut out on the front passenger side of the engine bay for the booster, as in the 58.

From what I have researched on the internet, the only change was the enlarged grille, but I want to make sure before I decide to pick another chassy up.

Thanks for any help!

Andy

I think you are wright the early had the small grill and full spats the change to big grill was because the 3.4 got hot in the small 8 bar grill , you can bolt in the disc brake front end straight in I have a s type in my mk1 the floor pan is the same for mk1 and mk2. hope this helps.

cheers
jim.

yes, it does! I was wondering how I would need to convert mine to disc brakes. I guess I would just have to swap out the rear differential assembly the same way, huh? I am putting a 3.4 in this early body, I bought an 8 vane water pump, should I plan on investing in an auxiliary electric fan as well? I live in sunny southern California. :\

Also, know anyone who wants a late mk1 grille? ...or has an early mk1 grille for sale??

Many thanks!

Andy
