found this at the local O'Riellys for 7$. Summit with shipping is about the same. Took tank in and it's a perfect fit though vented which won't really matter (good if your vent pipes are crudded up).

Make sure you get this correct or you may run out of gas along the road !

the 1966 3.8 S has vent tubes on the tanks. made sure that metal lines from inside the neck and then second one down the tank to bottom were nice and clean before reinstalling tanks.

That might be so but many of the cars did not come with vented caps as they don't need them. It is possible it changed at some time. There are plenty of errors in the SPC or where it varies from reality. I have my restored originals fitted ~ unvented. The reproductions are now vented much to the disgust of us originality freaks. They drilled a hole in the damn things.

Interesting. I am very familiar with vented and non and they are usually marked underneath (non vented marked NV). I checked the J12s (Master parts list) and it looks like a non vented cap came on board as a new part in 1966/67. Oddly enough there were 2 of them--C23601 and C23601/1 although it does not say what the difference is. Both cost $3.41 at the time. What is more interesting to me is the vented cap C 17566 cost $1.92 at the same time! Must have been an expensive hole to drill! I did see Bulletin C 24 where there was some issue with the vent tubes on the 'S' in or around Dec. 64. There was also an issue about the same time with the Vent on MK2 becoming clogged by road dirt. Interesting as my son's 340 (all original) and my 420 G (I am the second owner) both have vented caps. I will take a look at all of the caps I have and see how many non vented have been drilled after the factory. I would guess that would be much faster than replacing vent lines or cleaning vent lines.
BTW what version of the SPC is that you posted--or is it from an A1 list?

I have many S Type SPC's but the one I snipped out of is Revision November 1970 that I had to hand electronically. My car is A1B56966DN. So way after cap C23601 was introduced. Number 4 produced at CDA East London. Came off the line very late 1965.

C23601/1 appears to have been used on the E-type Series 2, not put the effort in to find out the difference on the /1
