Default gearbox inhibitor switch

Hi Folks,
I need to access the gearbox inhibitor switch on my 66 Daimler V8 saloon. Impossible from underneath. Should there be an inspection panel in the tunnel? If not, has anyone cut a hole in the tunnel side? Any pictures please?
Thanks in advance.
Tony

Which gearbox are you running?
The inhibitor switch for the Borg Warner 35 Auto is on the side of the gearbox. I can only relate to the S Type but there is an access panel in the side of the tunnel. The BW35 was not fitted to Jaguars until 1967 but cannot state when Daimler were given this Auto box. According to Wiki,
In April 1964 the Borg-Warner Type 35 automatic transmission was replaced by a D1/D2 type, also by Borg-Warner.
and the BW35 was available from 1965 on. I have attached a photo of where the inhibitor switch is on the BW35 which can be seen through the access panel on the S Type Jaguar. The access panel is just an over sized piece of metal which is screwed to the side of the tunnel with self tapping screws and is hidden under the carpet. Easy to make if you do not have one.

If you have the DG 250 Auto box I think I am right in saying the inhibitor switch on the Jaguar is under the dash with the gear change mechanism.

Here is another photo taken during my strip down showing the access panel in place which will give you a better idea of where to cut if you need to.

If Manual/OD & you are talking about the reverse gear inhibitor switch you need to remove the console & gearbox tunnel cover.

IIRC the Daimler did not have a full console.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. It is the BW35 as the switch is on the side of the box. I will have to cut a hole in the tunnel. Thanks for the pictures to show where.
