Hi Everyone,

Stumbled accross this forum when searching about engine swaps.

I have a 67 Daimler 250 V8, and now a 99 XJR to use as a doner car. I am hoping to transplant the 4.0 Supercharged engine into the Daimler.

I will be asking for plenty of advise on this one. Firstly, has anyone done this before as a DIY?

I sure haven't, but you might check Fiboy's MK-1 engine transplant, very little space...but he's a genius with Jags and Daimlers.

i am just on with the same thing,
i have a 03 4.2 stype for a doner,
there is a lot of work to do in the engine bay,
and i had to take the ac pump off to clear one of the rails ,
and u will have to push out the iner wings a bit ,
and thats just for starters

You can find a way to shoe horn the motor in. Take a look at our long thread on motor swaps here and a lot of your questions will be answered. The Beecham 90K$+ MKII restomod uses the newer Jaguar V8 but the one thing I would caution you is to research custom and tuner shops first as people forget that modern engines are all computer controlled which makes them drive nice but our old Jags will need that program to be tuned for the specific tire size, rear end gears, transmission gears, and other features you may or maynot need etc. If you want to keep it all Jag you can but make sure you find the resources first and understand the true cost. I opted for the modern GM LS1 V8 as there are literally hundreds of performance computer options and upgrades to make it a simple turnkey transplant but the type of engine is always a personal decision there is no right way just they way you choose meets your goals.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the links, looks good fun! I love the GM unit idea, but wanting to promote my skills as a Jag man with this project aswell as be great fun for me.
The control module/wiring does not phase me too much, that's the bits I am good at! For me it's the welding.....My god does it need some welding! This is why I thought I might as well fit a later unit, with the later IRS rear suspension.
I have worked in the main dealer Jag network for a good while and recently started my own business.

Chris, as you'll no doubt know, you're going to have to install all looms+modules for it to run. Including the door micro switches, or the slcm won't allow cranking. It's a true trial and error job.

The Beechams are £200k+

Why don't you do what I did and just stick a Majestic Major 4.5l unit in, mine ran on IDF Weber carbs with an S Type rear end and some composite panels. It was fearsome, sold it to a jeweller who promptly stacked it, plonker. (Although I got a very nice engagement ring for swmbo).

These things started to rust on the showroom floor....good luck

Yup, could be a real tester for me. If all fails I will fit a Motec M800 and bypass the original ecu. This way I could net even more power from the V8SC than it has now. A friend of mine Dave Rowe is an incredible mapper of the Motec systems.

I want to try and keep the existing module as it's a Paramount car running 425bhp. But if needs must.

I did look into the majestic engine btw... Rarer thasn rocking horse poo! Would be an awesome conversion though no doubt! I did consider tuning the 2.5 after reading about the drag cars running it! Both are very good engines!

Agreed, they were designed by Edward Turner who designed the Triumph bike engines, think he did Norton's too?

The Motec route would cut out a *lot* of fuss....this would be number one choice.

Will see how it goes on the stock ECU first to try keep some cost down.

I think either way it's going to be an expensive build. Has anyone got any detailed pics of a beacham conversion? Engine bay/underside etc?

Be interested to see what actually goes on under the skin!

A V8 is ideal in these early saloon cars and provides the power they really needed but it is never an easy nor cheap endeavor. What you are thinking of with an XJR has been done already and to me one of the best is what Doug has done. I am sure when you see what he has done you will drool but also realize you better have the dedication and resources to complete the build.

Chrisisle, It can be done and keep the faith, it will be great when done......
Take EVERYTHING out of the car from looms,brackets interior .
If your using a an aj8 motor, go to a hot rod store or speed shop in the states.
They sell a small block v8 in PLASTIC , it weight 25 lbs or so.
This is your template instead of the real thing and creating damage.
If you can keep a secret, some of us are working on a 2003 ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH with a possible ALL ELECTRIC set up.....

P.S. Battery in the trunk and the heater unit removed, the new a/c and heat goes all under the dash, use the system from vintage air, its bullet proof and very small.

Hi Sean,
I read with interest that you managed to persuade a Daimler Majestic Major 4.5 into a V8 250 shell.
I own a rather ratty V8 250 and a Majestic Major 4.5 engine in bits and wonder whether I could repeat this.
I am under the impression that the engine will fit in but there are problems with routing the steering shaft
around the RHS exhaust manifold. How did you do it ?
