Here is a pic of my 65 built S-type. It appears to be a probably a "twist in the trim" thing, then with the tabs bent over. I have no idea of a part number, just throwing it out there as a "likely original assembly part."
Do you have the the part number of the trim rivets you used for the front centre bonnet & front of front doors?
Or any idea of where I can find them online?
(I did buy a pack of the clips .... they do seem awful so i'm keen to avoid using them)
Many thanks
These work a treat on all side strips.
Require a thin shank pop riveter to fit inside the dome & pull tight before breaking the tang.

Sorry ~ did you mean these? I used these for front of bonnet & doors. They do a very good job. If you don't fit the strips will blow off at speed. They should be in the Barratts kit. You don't see them once chrome is fitted.
This is the kit.
P/N ~ Barratt's SBS1271FK ~ apply no Model filters & they will pop up on the Barratts UK website.

The advantage of stainless fasteners is very clear to me as I've been removing the trim and lights from the front of my car. The Mk2 teardrops over the headlamps seemed difficult at first, but a good twist works well. A couple of headlamp screws were awkward. Unfortunately, there's no access for using an angle grinder on the Fograngers. I've not figured how to remove the rusted clips on the little red telltales - looks like angle grinder work.
In spite of all that, those stainless nuts and bolts a few posts up look a bit heavy duty for attaching a strip of chrome. It's holding a chrome strip, not mooring the Queen Mary!
Just remember that ideally you need to slide each one into your chrome strip. They are not really designed to be an easy press on clip like the riveted variety that I show on the Maroon Mk2.
I made similar bolt on clips from pan headed screws by filing the sides of the pan head to fit into the chrome mouldings.
These are on my current MK1 bonnet and I have done this on a number of other restorations.
My MK2 bonnet centre moulding is still using the original twist into the slot and spring the moulding over the clip system.
The pop rivet system does work ok on the body side mouldings, but I still prefer to use the original bend over tab system on the bonnet side mouldings.

Absolutely Bill. That's what I used & they are in the kit.
Poor pic but you can see the bent over tabs on the bonnet sides.
Excuse reflections & rubbing compound.
