I'm looking for a Jaguar MK2.
Hi, ive been told to post this in this section as i may get more luck.
i know this is a very long shot but im looking for a certain mk2.
First i will tell you a little history about the car. In 1968 my great grandad bought the car brand new, a Mk2 2.4, reg: WPC 122G. Then in 1981 my grandad (Richard Hawke) bought the car from him. For many years my grandad went to many shows and me along with him as a little lad. Then in 2000 he sold the car to a fellow from Dinington/Sheffield. I would love to find this car and possibly take my grandad to go see it. Although my dream would be to purchase it, but if it is still in the condition my grandad sold it in it will be worth a fair bit, or the owner will not want to part. If anyone has seen it at a show or knows the owner it would be greatly appreciated if they could let me know. I recently did a car check and although the car gets free tax it says it hasn’t been registered for a tax disk since 2005. Heres a picture of the car, sorry about the poor quality i had to take a picture of a picture.
Also my email: Hawkeye87@hotmail.com
Many thanks in advance.

Don't forget to try the UK Jaguarforum too. Nice to see another Yorkshire man on the forum. I am from Doncaster. I would be tempted to ring around the jag breakers... It might of ended up in one of them. If not, they might know where it is.
There is a bloke out towards Retford that does alot with the older models.

one observation:
if it was purchased new in 1968, it must have been a Model 240 (2.4 engine) since the designation "MK2" was dropped a year or two earlier. Jaguar was by 1968 finishing up with the S type and the 420, and the anticipation in 1968 was the debut of the Series 1 XJ-6, though the "MK2" body style kept being made, but in 240 and 340 designations.
The car your dad purchased was the same as a MK2 but in 1968 the boot emblem would have read "240" or "340" (3.4 engine). This means that in a sense, you might be looking for the wrong model car. A MK2 has "MK2" emblems in the boot lid, the 240 has "240" emblems on the boot lid. If you could find an old Registration, it would tell you exactly how the car's Model was registered and more importantly, its V.I.N.
having said that, most 240 or 340 owners remove the 240 or 340 badges and install MK2 badges, and then they might install a 3.8 engine too, so the point might be moot. But if it is a 1968 or 1969, it's NOT a MK2 and it was not a 3.8 unless it was a Special Order.

maybe body work was done and the emblem was damaged and the mounting holes bondoed over?? look at the pictures below to see where the "MK-2" emblem would be

Hi! Jose,
When I get the project sorted and in process, I will do a full on documentation of the process in video, from caliper rebuilds to engine, carb, transmission, etc., and wheel(wire)building.
I will also document any improvements like electronic ignition or brakes, suspension and the possible installation of a GM Turbo 200R or 700R auto trans, or converting to a Manual transmission.
I'm not a 'Purist', some things just have to be updated(Radial tires etc.) while not changing the essence of the classic Jag experience. I drove these when new, and want to relive that long ago experience. Besides, the MK2 will look good parked next to my Ariel 'Red Hunter' and Triumph 'Bonneville'.
Later when the body refurbishing work starts I will cover things like straightening and polishing stainless trim, and environmentally friendly, home shop, rust removal. The body is rust free, then gas tank looks brand new, I have never seen one this good. All the panels appear to be straight, though, there is evidence(tweaked support strut) it was lightly tapped on the left front.
I probably won't cover body/paint work or upholstery, as that is generic in nature and well documented in other venues. The MK's upholstery is near perfect, carpeting needs replacement, and headliner could be replaced. The wood veneer needs restoring, so if anybody is interested, I will cover the headliner replacement and wood restoration/veneering process.
I am considering, adding a soft/fabric, sliding sunroof, so will cover that if I do. I also plan to convert the engine to the three carb XKE set-up with mild performance cams.
Because of my Old's 'Speedster' project, I don't expect to start work on the MK2 until next year, so it will be a while before I can add content to this site regarding the MK2 restoration processes. Right now it is all about research and finding spares.
And thanks Jose, for your considered thoughts/comment on the 'other' issue.
Regards ....AL

The (sic) MK1's weren't originally called that. They said "2.4 Litre" or "3.4 Litre", if I remember back all those years. That's how what we now refer to as MK 1's were identified for displacement.
MK 2's are a bit different. Jaguar block letters in the reverse lamp lens.....and 3.4L, 3.8L had "Jaguar" script above the license cover, below that displacement, and until 1964 had "Automatic" if so equipped. The "Automatic" went away in or by 1964...have to look up specifics. BUT:
2.4L, LHD or RHD, had NO "Jaguar" script, and no displacement, had the "Automatic" up until same year as above, only had the "MK2" tag lower right of the boot lid, as did all the other true MK2's.

I agree with Dave, there was never a "MK-1" badge or emblem, only "2.4 Litre";
Then came the "MK-2", then the "240" and "340". (same MK2 body, different badging). Also the 240 and 340 came with vinyl "Hardura" upholstery, no leather. (which in a sense was an improvement since vinyl upholstery lasts a lot longer than leather).

I think it is touching and I think it would be nice to see if you could locate it but the car is not a unique ultra limited version or custom one off so at some point you might consider to just buy a restored one or restore one to match that original one you grew up with. You might think of putting a fixed date to continue to search and then move on?
In the last 6 months I've seen several show car condition Jaguars with that same body and one with that color for sale that were in the US and right hand drive. Life is too short why not buy and restore one and continue the passion with another Jag you could pass down to your family.....There are many old Jaguars like that which need some loving restoration to bring them back from an uncertain future
