Jag Rod: S-Type 2 Door Coupe
It's been 2 years since I've posted. Some will remember my old posts under "My S-Types" (2-22-2015) where I show how I cut/shortened a 64 S-Type and made it into a 2 door. Well I'm starting a new thread more appropriately named above. I took a year off to completely restore my classic Sea Ray boat, now that's it's done, I'm back to work on the "JagRod".
So here is it's present status. It sits too high in the back because I haven't bought new coilovers for the rear yet.
I wanted the rear flares to have a double curve. The only way I could achieve that was to fiberglass over strips of metal.
Fronts will get flared. Engine is Vortec 350 w/Borg Warner T-5 manual. Cutting original window frames will be next huge challenge.
It runs and drives "around the block".

The Revolvers bolted right up; same bolt pattern (4.75x5). However; I have a wider rear out of a 90 XJS. The fronts have 1" spacers for a wider track. I used the uprights and 4 pot calipers/rotors from the XJS also.
Not sure how to link from this thread to my old posts; I'll try this:

I skipped lots of progress pictures between the old thread and now. I'll post a few at a time to catch you up.
Notice I over-capped the frame rails with 14Ga; 1st U-channels and then a top plate. I also made pieces that go forward to the suspension craddle mounts. Pics not in order.

For suspension I used uprights, calipers and rotors from a 90 XJS. I also used the rear from it, giving me about a 4.5" wider track. For steering, it has a custom bracket and modified (shortened tie rod ends) XJS rack. The pedal box assembly came from Speedway Motors and I had to bend the pedals to clear an aftermarket tilt column. The pedal housing box on the firewall is all hand made. (I wanted to/tried to utilize the factory pedal box *** but couldn't fit a dual circuit master cyl, and still have room for the clutch m-cyl)..and I didn't want the original convoluted remote slave cylinder, vac booster etc,). Since the rear axles and wishbones were wider, I had to modify the wishbones to enable use/positioning of the trailing arms in the stock location relative to the body mounts, while also keeping the coil-overs at the stock angle. I used the original narrower rear end support cage. So had I not modified the wishbones, the coil-overs would have been at too severe an angle. Notice I made custom engine mounts that use the stock perches, and tie into the front suspension cradle. (I'll look for better pics of that.)

Engine mount pics. I used a Speedway front cradle engine bracket and then made the plates where you see all the bolts (using Energy Suspension poly sway bar link bushes). See how I tie it into the cross-member brackets that stabilized the original 6 cyl.
BTW I also made my own exhaust (I can't bend pipe so I cut angles and welded em up. Need better pics on this later.) For ease of fit I used Corvette style rams horn exhaust manifolds vs headers. As you can see it was a challenge to go around the frame, steering link, sway bar and oil filter...5 pieces in the down tube...shows in progress tack welds.

Short wheelbase S-Type update
Now that my boat project is 98% done; back on the Jag Rod, Added mufflers; I knew the cherry bomb glass packs wouldn't silence it enough. Fabricated bump stop extensions for the wider rear end. Made mounts and located the handbrake in the center. This required swapping the park brake levers on the calipers, dropping the drive shaft to mount the cable etc. etc. Next up, rebuilding the hood hinges as they are sloppy. Nobody sells the rivets that I can find...not even the muscle car or shoe-box chevy guys. Anybody have any ideas where to get rivets?
