Tilley thanks for finding my quote. Looks like what I said is that any 3.4 would have been special order and I stand by that other than the hand full of very very early cars. That is different than "NO" 3.4L cars. Re badge is one thing--filling holes and painting is another. BTW Lofty's name was England. I pulled my copies and both Lyons' and England's quotes are in ref. to MK 10s. Please read on in that chapter and esp. p.110. I think one hang up is the term re badge. That implies that a badge was removed an replaced.In the case of the Mk 10 /420 G that is possible as the 420 script is in standard pin size and the "G" is added below--so drill a hole not fill a hole. The 340s that came to the US were badged at the factory. There are no filled holes in these cars.

George, I have never said that re-badging is a simple badge change, the changes referred to in Dougdale's book by Lyons were far more than that, if you either read the book properly or know the Mk10 or 420G, I never said the quote was regarding the MK2, but "other older models" and that the quote shows that the practice of re-engineering old stock was not a new idea.

By your slightly sarcastic use of "I have only seen a few thousand cars" and how you have "been at this a long time and have no records of a US import of less than 3.8L", the inference and context of the comment was that there was no old stock in the US as there was no record of any imports at all.

Maybe I should have used ----- there has never been a MK2 3.4 imported into the US, rather than NO 3.4's if there is a hair to split.
And yes I did make a typo error in Lofty England's name calling him English, an error on my part which I am happy to acknowledge, and thank you for pointing that error out George.
