Default Jaguar Mk2 barrel lock replacement

Hello,

Hope you can help. Just got a Jaguar 240 only to find the ignition key does not fit any other lock so need to replace all lock barrels on the car. Does anyone know how to release the barrels from the door handles?

Thanks in advance,

I think it handles off,
if you have keys for doors ,then why not just get ignition lock cut to door locks,
if you can get them out a good lock smith should you this for you.

George, what is the problem with having 2 keys instead of one. As it is if someone has a key that may provide entry it will not turn ignition!! Or cant I see the wood for the trees. Is it that you have not got keys for the door locks?
In my car you need more than one key and that I like.

from the factory, the front doors' key is the same for the ignition switch, a second key is for the trunk/boot and glovebox.

You'll have to take off the door trims and then detach the links to the latch mechanism, then take off the doorhandle. You'll find the lock barrel is held in with a little pin. It is quite easy to swap out lock barrels, but whether one can still get new ones I don't know

Thanks everyone for your time. Problem was that none of the keys I had worked in the locks. Managed to remove the push button mechanism (pulled from inside the door) by removing the two screws at the top of the spring retaining bracket and the clip holding the locking arm to the push button mechanism. No need to remove the handles completely from the car. Hope this helps someone searching the forum.

Yes, you jogged my memory on this. It was a long time since I fitted up the doors on my Mark 2 rebuild, (like the late eighties !!). Indeed the push button is not attached to the door handles, so it can be removed from inside the door frame.

just upgrade to a MK-2, S type, 420, MK-10, or 420-G door hardware if you can't find the original barrel, they are the same.
