Default Mk 2 Map Light

I have just bought a map light for my 1967 340 MOD and it had two plastic (Bakelite) pieces. One has all the gubbins on it (connection, bulb etc) and the other simply has two screw holes. I know the gubbins bit fixes on the return on the dash top, does anyone have any idea what I should do with the other bit?
regards
grey Nick.

one of them is the Glove box lamp assembly, the other is the Map Light, both as used in the S type of 1963-1968

Default MK2 Map Light

Thanks Guys

I first thought that the extra piece may have been as a burn protection above the light to stop the bulb burning the underside of the wood dash top but think that idea may be a bit silly.

I could put it in as a spacer behind the fitted strip to hold the whole assembly a little off the wood, but if that was the intention why not have it fitted there in the first place.

I do not know if the photo helps but any advice I get will be appreciated.

I've been kicking around buying one of the LED lighting strips to fit under the dash in lieu of the factory single bulb map light. I haven't looked into it yet, just at the thinkin' stage just now.

yes, it is a spacer in case you need it.
