the Bakelite cracks due to stresses from the driver, like grabing the steering wheel when they exit the car, stuff like that. And also the Bakelite material shrinks with age.

it happens to all Bakelite steering wheels, British, American, Italian, French, German.

there are businesses that repair them to perfection.

What type of coating is used to cover up all the marbling ?
What will last with out wearing through ?

It looks like you used JB Weld, when I use any epoxy and I have to colour match I use this stuff, it's great for many things _ colouring epoxy is one of them.

I will be painting the wheel with 2 pack paint and leather bounding the rim just like a e type .
I used dynasteel epoxy putty to repair the cracks.
