MK2 Rear Door Hinges and Door Installation

Hello,
I have been fiddling (serious fiddling) with the fitment of the metal Coombs wheel covers (spats?) for my 64 MK2. These things require some significant metal bending and stretching to obtain proper gaps.
Of course, to fit the covers I needed to have the rear doors in place which leads me to my question: "what is the ideal sequence of door hinge installation and fastening to the doors? The upper hinge can certainly be fastened to the B/C post first, but what about the lower hinge? What is the thinking on the best way to do this. Messing around with it now is easy, before the car is painted, but I would like to know the best protocol for installation once I have fresh paint on the car.
All thoughts appreciated.
