i'm a bit confused. need an explanation of post #1 and 2.

post #1 is plain enough, it's a cartoon of a MK2 engine blowing up. but post #2 is a puzzler. ...a colloquialism perhaps?

Jaguar MK2 ex-Targa car with blown engine
It didn't come out through the bonnet, but it definitely had a "blown" engine. I purchased this car around 2003. The engine had a con rod through the block and the whole of the lower engine was a write off. The mechanic who was working on the car said only the head was salvageable. He estimated that the engine had been wildly over revved and that had caused its demise. The owner could not afford repairs, so I ended up putting another 3.4 engine into it.

A colloquialism. We always talk about an object reaching terminal velocity down a mineshaft. South Africa has the deepest mines in the world.

The English name of the mine is Western Ultra Deep (Mponeng gold mine) near the town of Carletonville, some 90km south-west of Johannesburg. The first shaft goes down 3.9km Then a sub shaft takes it to just under 5km.

Been down there! with the Technical Director of then JCI, the late Alan Grodner ~ Now Harmony after unbundling. Was part of the Anglo American Group.

A white Mk2 really comes alive with the addition of racing stripes.
