Question: Voltage stabilizer - S-Type 3.8 ?

Hi Chaps
I am trying to get the instruments working on my 3.8S. The only meter working is the Amp one. (Positive Earth appear to have been reversed). The fuel and oil pressure is dead. The temp gauge moves off the scale when switching the car on. I am working through the wiring diagram. It appears the temp and fuel gauge gets its power from a voltage stabilizer. Can one measure the output of the stabilizer with a multi-meter ? I tried but the reading continually fluctuates ?
Anyone with any experience of this component ?
Regards

The fluctuating voltage (I think) is an indication that the stabiliser is working correctly, however I'll check mine tomorrow and advise.
I have usually found that if the earthing/grounding of the gauges is not up to scratch, problems will arise, so you may want to check that the metal panel that hinges down has a good connection with the chassis.
(maybe run a separate wire connecting the grounding terminal (at the top centre of the panel) to a screw or bolt on the metal structure behind the dash- black being the correct color code)

with everything Jaguar, the best testing option is to substitute the part in question, I have yet to hear about any test procedure for the Voltage Stabilizer in these cars.
what I would do first is to decide how you want the electronics to be: Positive or Negative Ground / Earth;
then connect the Battery in the proper manner, then re-polarize the Generator & Voltage REGULATOR following the steps in the below link:
