Default Radiator drain tap

is the brass drain tap controlled remotely by a rod in the S type still available new?

I removed mine because it was leaking, no matter how much I tried to tighten it.

The picture below shows my attempt at repairing it by creating more tension. I don't know if the repair works, it has not been reinstalled, I just put a universal plug to seal the drain hole.

All the taps I have seen available are different, not remotely opened or closed like the one in my car.

Have you disassembled it? MAYBE a good cleaning will fix it? I recall they are a tapered plug and a matching taper in the body.

yes I did. Once you remove the nail or cotter pin, washer, and spring, the tapered part comes out through the top. Mine is clean, not clogged.

I replaced the cotter pin with a steel nail to withstand the downwards pressure of the spring, the cotter pin would bend, too weak.

as you can see in the picture, it originally had one washer only, which is now under the spring, I added another washer on top of the spring, then the nail. This "fix" stopped the tappered part from popping up as was happening.

It is now a little harder to turn but not impossible to turn, and the tappered part does not pop out.

Norman Motors UK show it in stock with no price.

It was available from Barratts until recently. (below) The spout was a later addition about 1966. It's just soldered in place & easily removed if you don't like it.
