After every promise in the world that they would get my restored Jag S Type from Johannesburg to Care Town without a mark on it, it arrived having had a loose strap from the car above it with a metal edge on it.flapping on the dome for approx 1300Km it arrived with a 6 inch patch on it with scratches and a dent. The Roof lining is glued to the dome. So all the trouble of an insurance claim. Dent removal and & roof respray that was beautifully done by Dals Cape Town. Can't see it was ever touched. The German owner of Dals personally monitored the job & locked the car in his personal cage so no one could get near it..
If you can get a closed single car trailer do it.

Hi hueyhoolihan,
I have seen restored cars done by Muncie Imports & Classics, in Muncie Indiana. One of my friends had a lot of work done on his XK140 by them. It came out nice. There is one closer to you but I can't think of their name. Then there is Classic Jaguar in Dallas if you have a lot of money.
I have no connection with any of these companies. I have judge cars done by them. I do most of my own mechanical work and use locals for paint & body work.
Hope this helps.

I know for a fact that most of the auto transport companies out there work like this you put out the request for transport and it gets posted to a bulletin board where all the different auto transport companies bid on the job, sometimes the person who accepts the bed doesn’t actually have a transport lined up so then they go out to try to find a transport. That happened in my case so when they said they were gonna pick it up on next Tuesday, it actually took them a week to pick it up and then once they picked it up, they went silent for a week which really got me nervous. All I’m saying is be careful Everything is not as it seems sometimes.

curious why nobody has mentioned CJ Classic Jaguar, they also have an iffy reputation.

finally (whew!) got the car on a truck headed for BF (Black Foot) idaho. it took me three brokers and four haulers to finally get someone to show up. these guys will give you a quote and a pickup date, AND NEVER SHOW UP! or even give you a call that they're NOT showing up!!!!!
at the end i resorted to having the car removed from the restoration shop that had had the car for six months and did nothing constructive. yet they charged me $6700.00 for it. they said that they had incurred machine shop expenses, and labor to disassemble and then re-assemble again, recently, for transport. and some questionable other things that when i dug a bit deeper elicited a lot of backtracking, hesitation, stuttering and stammering.
it appears they bought a used engine, in an unknown condition, only to have the machine shop tell them that the block would soon crack again, among other things...ya, i could probably sue them successfully, but it would probably cost me more in misery and money than it's worth. frankly, i'm just very happy to get the car out of that shop!.
like i said i had the car hauled, locally, out of the shop. i had a flatbed tow it to my sister's house in columbus, oh. (twenty miles away), where it was kept for a couple days. it turned out that getting the origin of the transport OUT OF A BUSINESS LOCATION opened up opportunities WRT availability of the car to be loaded, in that businesses, guess what?, have business HOURS. and trying to match up haulers to a business with 9-5 tuesday thru friday availability limits opportunity.
final price? $2450. the hauling outfit was a 1 ton dually with an enclosed tag-a-long two-car trailer with a winch. nimble and convenient. they'll be there, so they say, in four days. ...at this point i'm not holding my breath.
ironically, i ended up, unknowingly at first, using the same outfit i used last year for hauling another sports car from boston to my home in central-coast california. company website: ampmautotransport.com. on that occasion i had NO problems whatsoever. the broker takes a big fat cut and the haulers the rest on delivery.
once the engine is installed (i'm guess another six months) i'll need to transport the car once again. this time i'll call ampmautotransport right off the bat and have them haul it from idaho to my home in california.
thanks to all who've contributed.
