If your car is fitted with a DG 250 Auto box this is the circuit diagram. It should have an "intermediate speed hold" switch on the dash above the handbrake/brake fluid level light.

the instructions to adjust it are in the Service Manual.

if you don't have the Service Manual, download it from my website:

www.classicstypeparts.webstarts.com

I have both the MK-2 and S type Service Manuals in .pdf format.

the adjustment steps are in the Electrical Section.

the adjustments are Left-to-Right first,

AND not documented is a FRONT-to-REAR secondary adjustment which is the one that turns ON the reverse lights. In other words, the switch pivots West-East, and then NORTH-SOUTH. You'll have to figure it out.

i downloaded the Mark 2 manual and went to the electrical section but found nothing about the adjustment to the immobilize/reverse switch. Did I miss something? Also is there something the discusses the emergency flasher switch?

You are looking in the wrong section. The adjustment is physical not electrical and so therefore is in the Auto gearbox section FF12 page 238 of the S Type manual (I do not have a copy of the 340 manual). The relevant page is attached below.

yes it is in the S type Service Manual.

if you follow the steps you can adjust it provided the wiring has not been disturbed,
and last, with the shifter in R, ignition ON, you can find the reverse lights "sweet spot" rotating the switch forward or backwards before finally tightening the bolt.

it might take a few tries so the forward or backwards movement needs to be in short 16ths of an inch, very little movement is needed.

Note that this forward or backwards movement is not documented in the Service Manual, I figured it out by accident when my reverse lights would never come on when shifting to Reverse. I finally got them to come on by moving the switch forward.

The Mk2 Service Manual does not cover the Auto Transmission. It's in a separate publication.

Good job I attached the relevant page from the S Type manual then Glyn. Sometimes Jaguar can be so frustrating when trying to find articles a bit like the fact they did not include the Adwest Marles PAS in the S Type manual and if you remember I had to buy a 420 workshop manual to get the details to do my strip down.

To all...
I finally got an OEM switch and installed it today. Now my reverse light works! (yes, the car only starts in P/N).

thanks to all...

Thank you everyone for the responses. My Jag is the 2004 XJ8 Sovereign Rt Hand Drive. It has the ZF gearbox 6 Speed Auto. Will this be the same location for my vehicle?

Take care

No. not even close. This forum is for the 1960's small sedans.

Post your question in the X350 forum.
