Default Steering Wheels

I have a MK2 (RHD, but that should make no difference).
Since my first experience with Jaguars in...1965, I think,
I find I preferred the MK1/140 four spoke wheel.
I have obtained one for exactly my price (free), with
button. Cracked but all there.
Epoxied, sanded, painted, and now I am investigating putting
it on the MK2.
There is a difference in hub length (and sleeve), so, has
anyone ever done this, and what is the secret?
I mean, I can make a new plunge sleeve to fit into the adjustment collar out of black PVC, but is the hub distance right?
Checking first, as I am limited on physical energy to do it twice..or three times.
Thanks.
Dave

Dave, assuming the splines are the same in both wheels, lay them flat, face down on a table and any hub length differences will be obvious.

Oh, yeah, I know.
MK1/140 are fairly flat across the back...I mean, bit of tapered end, but the MK2 has a what, 2" sleeve that sticks out four inched that drops into the adjuster?
I've had the wheel off a half dozen times or more, but when I get the energy back, I'll pull it again.
I was hoping someone, somewhere, in the last 55 years had done this, so I knew if I was barking up the wrong tree or not.
Maybe it takes a new column?
Or different?
Or just the upper shaft?
I know the sleeve is no real problem...I can make that....

as far as I know, the steering columns of the MK-2, E-type, MK-X, S-type, 420, 420-G, and XJ-6 are essentially the same, but I have no clue about the MK-1 or earlier Jags, or the Big Jaguar Saloons which use the same 4-banjo spoke steering wheel as the MK-1.
