Hello to all and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving,
I replaced the leaking cam oil feed with the steel braided hose, however the new one was very tight and could have been a bit longer from the top to bottom.
Moving on to the fuel pump, it did test out to be weak. The stream was not very strong, I was told by a mechanic that it should be about 2 to 3 inches, not just a trickle.
So that brings me to my next question: The pump is an fuelflow ecco 15lm12 su fuel pump for classic cars. I pulled out a large O ring and a round plastic piece which I assumed was junk; but I think it is part of the workings.
What do you all think of the fuelflow ecco 15lm12 su fuel pump for classic cars? Versus the Hardi pump already mentioned.

Hello Bill,
I have checked and emptied one gas tank. The filter is part of the drain plug. It is damaged, but not blocked and I need to get a simple filter to attach as a replacement, but not the original. I washed the gas tank with hot laundry soap & water and spray hosed it to clear out loose debris. Used compressed air to blow things out. Then dried with a hair dryer for 2 hours. refilled with gas.
There is no blockage, I used compressed air and every line is clean. There is for sure a problem with one of the pumps. I have just placed an order for 2 pumps from onlineautoparts.com.au . I went for the pumps made in New Zealand by FuelFlow. 12 volt SU Style Universal Electric Fuel Pump 3-4 psi FuelFlow NZ Made
I read a very long review about these pumps and decided to try them!

I will see how it turns out when they arrive in a 2 weeks . Or sooner.
Thanks
Jimmy

About 8 years ago we obtained a 6-volt ECCO pump to get an old just post WW2 Mercedes going as the original mechanical pump had failed and the owner couldn't get parts
As far as I know the pump is still working but have had no contact for a couple of years.
I have given up on SU pumps and won't have them in any car.
I have Facet pumps in my MK1 and MK2 but have heard good things about ECCO pumps.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that the filter in the bottom of the tank is too fine; it needs only to stop particles big enough to block the fuel line. There should be a fine filter in the pipe just before the pump where it's easy to check and replace.
According to my records and memory, SU pumps have done well in my car with only one failure (in 1969). On the other hand, playing with Minis in my youth (when we all thought we were the next Paddy Hopkirk), we replaced SU pumps with Facet as a matter of course and covered the cost by selling the SUs on to the Imp fraternity to upgrade their even more unreliable devices.
