To use or not to use rubber grease on brake hardware. The internet seems to say you should, the books say you shouldn't. I am finishing the replacement of the rubber grommets on my brake pistons, and am trying very hard to "do it right", but cannot decide on which is correct. Also, the fact that I don't have the Red Rubber grease makes me side with the "don't use it" crowd. Any input would be appreciated!
In the same vein, to use or not to use brake pad adhesive on the round brake pads? I see no mention of it in current literature, but I see it in the old documentation, and I have some older foil backed adhesive strips. The booklet says to cut the strips to size and apply between the pad and backing plate Any thoughts?
Ignore my cramped and disheveled garage please.
Sorry for the multiple posts, I just don't want to put too many questions per thread.
The lubing of brake hardware will not anything. Back in the early days was not done. Now to prevent squeaking an squealing done regularly. It does help lengthen the duration of needing new parts as they are protected better than age old repairs. Just be careful not to get lube on braking surfaces and you will be set to go. Helps minimize rust while waiting to finish rebuild over time. All my new rubber came with a tube of rubber grease.
