When my father bought our Mk2, it had scratches on the scuttle from a previous owner's work on the wipers. It was irritating as the rest of the paint was perfect. Matchsticks and sticky tape on the splined shaft serve to indicate its position.

Correct wiper mechanics?
Are you sure the mechanics that drive the wiper-arms is correct? There are several different types, 110° to 160°. It is decided by how far from center on rotating wheel the "drive-chain" is connected (Closer to center=shorter travel/round=110°). They are all named DR3

You have 2 wheelboxes with a tube between them. The flexible rack must align perfectly between them in the centre tube and don't leave off the little end tube. Do this the Peter method with wiper arms off. Someone has fitted arms to help park right on the splines. Once you have done this refit the arms to the splines in alignment with Peter's match sticks.

Sorry the parts manual jumbles this all together. Tube 84 goes from the wiper motor to the first wheelbox. Then Tube 85 goes to the second wheel box. Then Tube 86 acts as a flexible rack support that I warned you not to leave off. Push the flexible rack through the tubes & ensure that everything lines up nicely and the wheelboxes are screwed to the body. Only then attach the rack to the steering box followed by Tube 84. Then use the Peter matchstick method to fit the wiper arms on the splines.
Ask any questions you have. I've done it but you have to get your head around it. I even made up new tubes with flared ends. Mine were dented.

I have just consulted my MK2 parts manual re wiper motors assemblies which is the complete unit including wheel box etc.
The Right-hand drive motor assembly part number is 073144 DR3
The Left-hand drive motor assembly part number is 073145 DR3.
There is no difference in the internal parts except for the actual electric motors themselves which are
RHD 75310/A
LHD 75311/A
Unfortunately I have never had to deal with a LHD wiper motor and cannot tell you what the difference is.
