Default 1983 xj6

New owner of an 1983 XJ6 from the San Francisco Bay area. Took some tries, but got the car finally smogged Recently pulled the right hand gas tank and in the process of getting it replaced. Picked up a headlight conversion kit as well. Next I need to figure out what to do about the dash. Previous owner had the gaudy vinyl overlays. Unfortunately the wood underneath was in such bad shape that it has completely peeled off (down to the metal). I don't even know what my options are. Anyways.. I'm happy to be here!

Provided you can find a re-veneering workshop, the base dash panels can be redone, but will not be cheap. From the pictures there seems to be some extra "wood" in places I would not expect. I would just re-veneer the main dash panels and put leather or vinyl on the rest - you can do this yourself.

Have the doors got wood inserts ?

You are absolutely correct, the extra wood is vinyl, of course, and will be removed. i just came across this site that does refinishing... looks good, but i am unsure about prices. my doors do not have wood inserts. on a side note, does anyone know that the name of these rims on this car are?

Hi Solerunner

Those wheels look like those fitted to the later XJ6, the XJ40 model, the one with no curves !! They should be a straight bolt-on job, but check tyre diameter for the speedo reading. The Series 3 cars were generally all on a 205/70 VR 15, although the V12s had a 215 width I think.

Those are "Lattice" wheels, used on the XJS and XJ40

Cheers
