1985 vdp
We purchased in 1985 a new Jaguar xj6 VDP. It has been in the family since then and kept in our garage. Unfortunately we are having a serious problem with the fuel transfer system in that gas actually pours out under pressure from one of the saddle fuel tanks when the engine is running.

Most likely one of your return valves is not working. Gas is being drawn from one tank but being returned to the opposite tank, causing the opposite tank to overflow.
Here's some diagnostic info
