Hi,
I am the proud (I hope) new owner of a 1996 Vanden Plas. I bought the car from a friend who purchased it new. He has serviced the car regularly. It is immaculate! The car has been a very reliable car for him.
Now that I own the car everyone I see tells me what a sucker I am. The main thing I am hearing is that I won't be able to afford the repair bills.
I have always wanted a Jag. My friend sold me the car for $5000.00. I know I got a deal.
Can someone please chear me up.
Thanks,
Tammy

That's a sweet beautiful car. If it's an 8 cylinder you should ask your friend if he replaced the engnie, cuz these cars have a NIKISIL problem, where the whole engine will eventually need to be replaced.
How many miles are on the car, give us the scoop and put up some pictures.

The 95 to 97 XJ6 (also called the X300) is one of the best cars Jaguar ever built. You the suspension (ball joints, control arm bushings and shock bushings) go out often. This is because they take all the pounding to produce such a great ride. The LED on the clock will fail. The tilt and reach motors in the steering column fail. That's the main complaints. Oh yeah, the cupholders break.
Engine: bullet proof
Transmission: bullet proof
Interior and exterior holds up well
Looks incredible on the road!

170k miles here and still running strong! The AJ16 engine is an incredably strong motor and lasts in excess of 250k miles in many cases. It's a 4.0L inline 6 which produces great torque and power (which has way more potential when uncapped...but adds more engine and intake noise when doing so..but the motor has awesome sound..so why not!). The x300 Vanden Plas (96-97 models, not the 95's) are very reliable and break the typical mold that people assume. There are a few little quirks, but nothing impossible or hard to fix as already mentioned. Paul's Jaguar has brnad new replacement cup holder consoles for about $150 and they have great service! I did a little write up on a few of the items on my blog: http://www.vipjags.com
Enjoy the car!!
