Default 1996 x300 transmission issue. Won't leave first no reverse

Just purchased a 1996 xj6 x300 for a steal put in some new plugs went about 2500 kms with it turned vehicle off for 5 mins went to start again was stiff to shift. Shifter wanted to pull back to neutral by itself . With abit of wiggling the shifter freed up but vehicle won't leave first gear and has no reverse ... is this an electrical issue or transmission? Anyone have anything happen like this ... couple odd times when putting vehicle into park with engine already running starter would engage ? Might be related can anyone help me

Welcome to the Forums.

GGG has directed you to the Guru's.

Might pay to mention 3.2ltr or 4.0ltr, different transmissions, different faults and fixes.

Good luck.
