Exclamation 1997 VDP water damage electrical issues

Help? On April 25,2019 my beautiful Jag wound up in a ditch beside the road, and partially flooded in this blinding rainstorm. Stuck in the water up to the rear seat (covered the fuse boxes underneath), and kept running until the tailpipes were gurgling exhaust underwater. Then I had to bail. Was in the water effectively for an hour before the rescue occurred. It wouldn't start after that. 3 of 4 windows stuck in the down position and none work anymore. This VDP was in tip top running condition when it went in the water. Left it out in the Larue, Texas sun since then, more or less so it is as dry as its going to get. When I hook up an "OBD II" now and turn the key on "ACC" asking for faults, it says "no connection" with the ECU. I have another ECU that is good(a previous mechanic charged me $1000.00 to find and install it) in an otherwise deceased 1996 (same VDP essentially), but if I could address the relays and/or fusible links between the "ACC" key position and the ECU, I may solve this first issue. Any ideas? I am not a rich man but I am persistent and can prevail with enough expert help from this group. Please help? Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Forums.

BUGGA,

The members in the X300 Tech Section have answers/suggestions.

Water ingress is a mongrel to sort in any car.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums Paul,

Ouch! Sounds like you had a lucky escape. Not such good news about the car.

1997 was a model change year but your reference to a 1996 in the post confirms it must be one of the last 6 cylinder (X300) models and not an early V8 (X308). Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj6-xjr6-x300-26/ to the X300 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also use the US Southwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-southwest-37/ to find other members in your region.

Good luck and enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello, Paul,
I've been in a water filled ditch in a rain, but it was at Night and someone sideswiped the car to put me there.
I'm glad you're OK. I was too.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
