Thumbs up 1998 Jaguar Vanden Plas

This is my first post.

I have gotten so much benefit from these forums. I love my older Jag, and these places help with repairs.

I would like to share a repair I just completed on my car. The Traction/Stability Control failure lights stayed on along with the ABS symbol. I read about it on the forum, and discovered it is a common failure on my XJ8. Craigs List was mentioned, and I found a company in California who repair the control module. It is called Module Repair Pro.

I looked on youtube and searched for a 98 jag control module, and there were two detailed videos showing how you remove the module. I elected to not undo the brake lines, and moved them very carefully and had no trouble removing or replacing the module. The two bottom screws are hard to remove, but I have a little magnet on an extendable stick I paid a couple of bucks for at Ace hardware. I used the magnet to hold the tiny socket in place and used an allen wrench to turn it.

I sent the module to the address in Ca. Got it back in less than a week, reinstalled it and the problems are solved. I was able to drive the car without the module, but I put plastic bags over the connections. The speedo didn't work, so drive carefully. Total cost was $55.00 including shipping.

I hope this helps someone.
