Default 1st Time Jag Owner - 2000 XKR Convertible

A quick hello to everyone, happy to be a part of such a tremendous resource.

I recently acquired my first Jaguar, a 2000 XKR convertible in British Racing Green.

I'm in the Boston, MA area and the first couple of projects I plan to undertake are:

1) Install a pressure reducing resistor in series with the convertible pump motor.

2) Replace an inoperable GDO in the overhead console.

3) Have the original secondary tensioners replaced with the newer, metal, component. (This one is above my comfortable skill level, so if anyone knows a good shop in the Boston, MA area that would be willing to do a "zip tie" equivalent swap out, the referral would be greatly appreciated.)

Thank to many of you who have already been outstanding sources of knowledge.

Welcome to the forum Phins1372,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I recommend reversing the order of your to-do list. Tensioner failure can be sudden and very expensive.

Follow this link XK8 / XKR ( X100 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link US Northeast - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Thanks GGG,

Updated my signature, and will have the tensioners replaced as soon as I can get in touch with a reputable shop in my area that will do the job at a reasonable price. It's a top priority!

Absolutely stunning example. Yes, I'd do the tensioners to be safe.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Since I joined I found a great shop in the Boston area that opened up my engine to discover that the tensions had already been replaced with the more solid metal version, or my car was one of the earlier ones produced to receive the upgraded part from the factory. Either way, aside from an issue with the rearview mirror, the car has been 100% issue free and just a joy.

Best to you!

No idea why AJ16er would decide to post a reply to your Intro today after almost 3 years!

It was a sensible precaution to have the tensioners checked. Good to your XKR has been free of issues.
