Default 1st time Jaguar Owner

I have read some of the posts here before to help know what to look for and am now the proud owner of a 2005 XJ8L with 70,000 on the clock for less than the price of a new base Fiat. My best excuse for getting an L model is a daughter past 5'8" at 12 years old and still growing combined with a disdain of ugly or boring sedans and an absolute loathing of minivans. It's great when the practical solution is to get a Jaguar!

So far I have sorted out the thermostat (too cold) repaired the dome light system (poor connection and possible bad bulb), replaced the spare tire and assorted front bumper plastic inserts (obviously had a run in with a culvert sometime) as well as the usual fluids and fresh alignment (much less skittish now). As an interesting side note, I've noticed that the neighbor cats have been staying off this car, while they were all over the previous Riviera. I'm not sure if it's species courtesy or the brand of wax used before, I'm just happy to not have paw prints and fur all over the car.

Welcome aboard.

Nice choice of Jag, not convinced on the excuse however.

I always thought the reason was "its a Jaguar, nuff said".

Enjoy the car and our forum.

Welcome to the forum 2ManyCars,

If your 12 year old is dictating your car choice now, you'll be in for a very hard time when she's old enough to drive one of her own.

It sounds like you already know your way around here but if not, follow Steve's link to the X350 tech section for help advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forum.

Nice car and best of luck with it. My wife knew I was looking for a XK and was not happy about it but when she couldn't fit the child seat for our new born grandson in her Mustang we compromised and got a XJ8. Worked for me.

Thanks for the Greetings. To clarify, I picked the Jaguar XJ8L or VDP as the best solution to our growing problem as 1. a car I had always wanted to own at least one of and 2. one of the best looking sedans around. Just because I had to get a practical body style doesn't mean I wanted a boring car. Anyway that's the reason the wife bought and she enjoys driving it as well. As a mechanic of more mundane machines, I 've found it well laid out for the most part. Looking forward to many years and road trips.
