2000 S-Type Fail Safe Engine Mode Message
Hi!
I just bougt a 2000 S-Type, 25,000 miles in excellent condition. I've only had it 2 weeks
and today after I took it though a car wash, the message center reads " ENGINE IN FAIL SAFE MODE" In my handbook it says that this indicates that there has been a mechanical or electrical failure but this feature allows you to drive the vehicle home safely.
I just had this vehicle serviced and no mechanical or electrical problems were found. I did need the left manifold and gasket replaced because there was a slight exhaust leak. Why would this message suddenly appear? What does it really indicate? Nothing seems to be different in the performance of the vehicle after this message came on and all my electrical functions appear to be working.
Could someone at the dealership done something while changing the manifold to prompt this message? Could some wiring have gotten wet at the carwash to create this problem?
I hope somebody can provide some information.....
Thanks
