HI gang
Just another Newbie here. On Wednesday I bought my first Jag. Its a 2000 XJ8 Vanden Plas. I have always been hesitant about Jags because of their reliability record but I had heard that since Ford took over they had improved. I bought it because it was a great price. That and the fact that I fell in love with it when I saw it. It is high mileage but had a new tranny last year . What other problems should I look forward to having with this car.
I hate to admit it but I really like this Jag. My other cars are a 79 Rolls Silver Shadow and a 99 Rolls Silver Seraph. I use these in a chauffeur service. The Jag is more luxurious inside, looks better outside and rides better than the Seraph. I will keep the Rolls Royces because of the name and as a business concept but my every day car is the Jag.

Welcome to the forums and the interesting world of owning a Jag.
If you don't have maintenance records, kind of hard to say what problems may pop up.
Hopefully none.
Things to be mindful of:
Thermostats stick with great regularity. Change it annually as a Preventitive Maintenance item.
Timing chain tensioners are crap unless they have been replaced. Listen for rattles at start up.
Good thing is you have a 2000, so it is post nicasil lined block. You wont have to worry so much about blow by.
Keep your throttle body clean and your part load breather clear and you should have many miles of happy motoring.
